LiteBringer: the #1 guide for beginners and veterans

LiteBringer CharacterLineUp removebg preview

What is LiteBringer?

From the German developer Cipsoft (makers of the Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) Tibia), LiteBringer is the first game created to run on the Litecoin (LTC) blockchain. Officially released on the 4th of August 2020, LiteBringer runs on a computer via the client download found on the official LiteBringer website.

Taking place on the Litecoin blockchain, LiteBringer is a completely decentralized application. This one aspect alone provides wholly unprecedented control of the game to the ones that deserve it most – the players. From a player’s perspective of LiteBringer, to the Mr. Miyagi himself – LiteBringer is full of wonder and mystery.

What is Litecoin and blockchain?

Created on the 7th October 2011, Litecoin is a cryptocurrency fork of Bitcoin brought into existence by Charlie Lee. The ex-employee of Google, Lee, designed Litecoin to cooperate with Bitcoin solves issues such as transaction timings and concentrated mining pools.

Despite Litecoin’s code being a fork of Bitcoin, it is actually neither a hard nor a soft-fork of Bitcoin. Furthermore, Litecoin is also not a sustained chain split of the king of crypto. With no commonly shared ancestor Genesis block, Litecoin works completely separate from Bitcoin as a wholly new blockchain.

Blockchain itself is a system of recorded transactions made using cryptocurrencies. This system is maintained by a peer-to-peer (p2p) network of computers which results in decentralized finance (DeFi) and as blockchain becomes increasingly popular as the financial alternative, so too does the DeFi space.

In LiteBringer, the blockchain facilitates every single aspect of the game and how quickly (or slowly) a player can progress. Thus far, Charlie Lee’s goal of reducing block confirmation timings down to 2.5 minutes has made the game run smoothly.

The only thing that can match the speed of Litecoin transactions is, Charlie Lee’s wit:

How to get started

To start playing, the best method of learning will come from watching the official LiteBringer ‘How to Play’ video. This video explains the foundations of the game including character creation, development and specialisation alongside the associated fees paid to miners for blockchain progression. It also features quest details, basic equipment understanding and how elements come into play as players progress through the game.

It can seem like a lot to take in at first, but as players get to grips with the game, the process of playing becomes far clearer. The aspect that slowly disintegrates LiteBringer’s façade of simplicity is the player’s progression onto higher quest tiers. These tiers are given roman numerals I, II, III, IV, V, VI for ascending difficulty.

For a simple RPG, it has great complexities tailored for hardcore fans of the genre.

Simple, but complex

In essence, LiteBringer is a simple dungeon/quest running game aimed at becoming as strong as possible to take on progressively stronger foes. However, simple as it may seem, the complexity appears once the player sets their sights on progressing to tier II and above.

Elemental weaknesses and strengths are important aspects to consider when trying to counteract enemies, but as players progress, equipment and skill effects come into play.

Each ‘effect’ has a strengthening or weakening outcome on the different enemy tiers that the player must face in order to progress. As shown below, each column indicates the enemy tier and which certain effects weaken them, while strengthening the character. As players progress from one tier to the next, the previous weaknesses become the next tier enemies strengths. These strengths and weaknesses are give the terms ‘sensitivity’ for weakness and ‘resistance’ for strength against.

An example of this is in the picture below:

The tier II boss, Thrimban Magmapike is weak against the effect disarm as shown in the top left picture. On the other hand, the tier III boss, Cerberus is instead strong against disarm, but weak against blind and silence. Following this same pattern, the two tier IV bosses, Illume and Pyreveil, are strong against the effect of silence and predecessor effects, while weak against tier IV equipment effects fear and armour reduction.

The extent of the element and effect bonuses

Below we can see the effect that disarm has on taking on the boss, Mugdul, the Berserker. In the pictures on the left we see an effective character power level of 6012 – boosted by four disarm effects (each contributing +90 power). We can also see the effect that wearing full nature gear has on this lightning element boss – boosting base power levels by 50 percent (five percent per item equipped).

In the pictures on the right, we can see that the effective character power level is now 6124 – boosted by five disarm effects. This simple addition of one more disarm effect and small boost to base power now allows this character to fight 16 rounds – one additional loot-gathering round than before.

This change occurs by unlocking an piece of equipment’s max level effect. As seen below, the change from level 14 to level 15 increases overall power and stats by a fraction, but also lights up the item’s effect. This means that the effect will now be taken into consideration when fighting bosses and increase or reduce a characters power level as shown with the boss above.

How to play to earn

Litebringer brings elements of the hardcore RPG nostalgia to the online community, but the one aspect that sets it apart from the rest is the ability to profit from playing it.

With an in-game public market available and the relevant Discord trading channels, players can haggle out prices for their items, elemental stone (for levelling equipment) and even their characters. The one issue that occurs however, is determining the price. Below we can see an example of a Discord trading channel and examples of public market characters, stones and an item for sale.

The immediate issue you might have spotted above is how prices vary. The elemental stones shown are all the same price of five lites, but consist of vastly different quantities which are five, 500 and 1000 stones. Prices can also be comically high, as shown above, where a helmet is up for sale for 1,000,000 lites (or 1000 Litecoins).

So how do players determine price ranges to make profit?

Unfortunately, there is no set price at this time as market prices are an endless battle between players undercutting one another to profitable outcomes. Until players reach the end-game of this potentially limitless, expanding gaming atmosphere, it is unlikely that prices will ever be set in stone (if you’ll pardon the pun). For now, assessing the market prices for the items/characters you wish to sell is highly advisable to determine whether your sale will be successful.

Thanks for reading.
