Famitsu Awards ‘Infinite Wealth’ a Perfect Score of 40, Joining Exclusive Club

TL;DR

  • ‘Infinite Wealth’ achieves a perfect score of 40 in Famitsu, a rare feat in gaming history.
  • The game is the fourth in the 2020s to earn this accolade, joining an exclusive club.
  • ‘Infinite Wealth’ may also aim for a perfect score from UK magazine Edge, but it’s a waiting game.

The highly-anticipated video game, ‘Infinite Wealth,’ has achieved a rare and prestigious accolade in the gaming world by receiving a perfect score of 40 from Famitsu magazine, a renowned Japanese gaming publication.

Unlike most game review outlets, Famitsu assigns four critics to rate each game individually on a scale of 1 to 10. To earn a ‘Famitsu 40,’ a game must receive unanimous perfect scores from all four reviewers.

This feat has only been accomplished 30 times in the magazine’s history since June 1986. ‘Infinite Wealth’ becomes the fourth game in the 2020s to attain this extraordinary honor.

‘Infinite Wealth’ joins the exclusive ranks

‘Infinite Wealth’ now shares the spotlight with just a handful of games that have secured a ‘Famitsu 40.’ In 2020, ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ earned this prestigious rating, while in the following year, both ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ and ‘Street Fighter 6’ achieved the same honor. This accomplishment solidifies ‘Infinite Wealth’ as one of the standout titles in recent years.

Notably, ‘Infinite Wealth’ is the second game in the Like a Dragon / Yakuza series to attain a ‘Famitsu 40.’ The previous entry in the series to receive this distinction was ‘Yakuza 5’ on the PlayStation 3 back in 2012. With this achievement, ‘Infinite Wealth’ has taken place among the elite titles in the Like a Dragon series.

The coveted ‘Edge 10’ remains a possibility

While ‘Infinite Wealth’ has secured its place in Famitsu’s exclusive club, the question remains whether it can achieve another rare accolade – a perfect score of 10 from UK magazine Edge. Edge is known for its discerning reviews, with only 26 games receiving a perfect score in its 30-year history.

Thus far, only six games have earned both a ‘Famitsu 40’ and an ‘Edge 10,’ with ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ being the most recent addition to this exclusive list.

Unfortunately, ‘Infinite Wealth’ missed the opportunity to be featured in the latest issue of Edge, which was released earlier this week. Consequently, it will take several weeks before gamers and critics determine whether ‘Infinite Wealth’ will become the seventh game to achieve this remarkable dual distinction.

Critical acclaim for ‘Infinite Wealth’

VGC’s review of ‘Infinite Wealth’ has echoed the sentiment of Famitsu’s perfect score, describing the game as “the series at its very best” and a “can’t-miss RPG.” The review also praised the game’s excellent combat mechanics, a diverse and engaging cast of characters, and its willingness to embrace uniqueness and eccentricity.

In summary, ‘Infinite Wealth’ has garnered widespread acclaim for its impressive gameplay and content-rich experience. The VGC review suggests that the game offers an extensive array of activities and quests, making it an absolute must-play for fans of the RPG genre.
