Elon Musk Reacts to Remarks About Freedom of Speech from NPR CEO

TL;DR

  • Elon Musk has warned again against ultra potent AI.
  • This time he was replying to Mark Andreessen in a tweet, who criticized NPR CEO Katherine Maher.
  • Maher is already under criticism for her political and tech views.

Elon Musk once again voiced his concerns about the possible harmful outcomes of an extremely powerful AI (artificial intelligence) in a reply to Mark Andreessen. Let’s take a look at what happened from the start. Marc Andreessen is an American businessman and also a software engineer, famous for Mosaic’s co-author, which was the first widely used web browser, and general partner of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

Elon Musk replied to Andreessen’s tweet,

“Super-powerful AI programmed in this way has severe civilization-level risk.”

NPR CEO under criticism

Andreesen criticized NPR CEO Katherine Maher, who said that “the number one challenge” to countering disinformation in the United States is the First Amendment, which makes it difficult to censor bad information and the influence peddlers who disseminate or circulate it. Katherine’s video was posted on Twitter now X by Christopher F. Rufo. Take a look at the video.

Andreessen wrote about the influence of people like her, who determine what can be accessed online and are currently shaping the future of AI. A point to note is that NPR CEO Katherine Maher has been under criticism for her extreme political views and is now also blamed for hating tech. A recent tweet by piratewires even accused her of scapegoating Silicon Valley for nearly all the problems the world is facing.

Elon Musk warns again

Coming back to Musk’s stance, Musk has always been an advocate of safety and has highlighted the dangers associated with uncontrolled AI development. He previously said that AI could potentially “kill us all.” That sounds like an AI doomer, doesn’t it? He was also an advocate for putting a ban on the development of AI models smarter than ChatGPT 4 previously, as he also signed a letter to the US government for this very cause.

But criticism aside, Musk also said that AI may be the greatest breakthrough we will see in our lifetime. His views of a concept of universal income for all people due to the opportunities that AI will bring are well known. But we think it will be the perfect communist scenario that Karl Marx could have ever imagined, and that on a global scale. Despite Musk’s previous preference to ban the development of AI models smarter than GPT 4 for six months, he spares no chance to flaunt his own xAI and his X platform’s chatbot Grok. Sounds contradictory? Well, being a billionaire and minding your own business is also not easy.
