In this post:

Nestlé and Carrefour, two big names in the food industry, have decided to boost the implementation of blockchain tracking solutions to cover infant milk products.

Until now, the blockchain tracking efforts of the two companies spanned over an array of other products. However, infant milk was left on the sidelines.

Blockchain tracking

Traceability is becoming an important virtue of food producers and suppliers, which is why blockchain tracking is also gaining popularity.

With projects like the IBM Food Trust, the food production and distribution industries are revolutionizing the way produce is tracked. This gives customers the ability to know exactly where their food comes from.

To keep up with these new trends, Nestlé and Carrefour have vowed to implement blockchain tracking for infant milk as well. This is one of the areas where such information is very valuable, as moms are always looking out for the quality of the food they give to their children.

What blockchain tracking brings to the table is an opportunity for manufacturers and distributors to gain the customers’ trust. Once a customer knows that their infant milk products are coming from legitimate sources, and are stored in the correct facilities beforehand, they will be more likely to continue purchasing this product.

IBM Food Trust

The IBM Food Trust is the largest blockchain tracking project for food. It was initially organized by Nestlé and Carrefour, in cooperation with IBM.

Thanks to the IBM Hyperledger technology, a large part of the produce of those two companies is now followed through every step of the production and distribution phases.

Such innovative solutions are a great benefit to customers, who get proof that their food is ethically and morally sourced and produced.
