Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced the closure of the PlayStation Stars loyalty program. The company said the loyalty program will stop accepting new members effective immediately. Sony also added that the program will officially end in November next year.

According to the firm, the loyalty program will not accept new members from May 21, 2025. The firm said the current members can still earn points up to July 23. Sony added that existing members can still earn Digital Collectibles and level up their current status until July.

After almost 3 years, the PlayStation Stars program is ending. No new campaigns will be added after July 23rd 2025. You can continue to spend your points on rewards until they expire or until November 2nd 2026.

Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that if members of the program intend to cancel their membership after May 21, 2025, they will not be able to rejoin the program. The company added that members will lose all the points earned from gaming upon membership cancellation.
The game’s developer reiterated that no more campaigns will be available after July 23 this year. Also, members will not be able to earn any additional rewards. SIE also confirmed that members of the loyalty program will not be able to earn any status benefits afterward.

Sony’s news came two months after Nintendo discontinued its Gold Points. Nintendo revealed on March 24, 2025, that there would be no gold points when gamers purchase digital content from their eShop. The company clarified that users could still earn Gold Points if they had pre-ordered any digital product before the discontinuation date.
Nintendo said gamers could also earn points if they bought a physical version of any game launched before March 24 this year. The firm added that all games launched after March 24, 2025, will not be eligible for the reward. Nintendo said Gold Points could still be received on game purchases completed at its New York store through March 24 this year.
While announcing the discontinuation of Gold Points, the firm thanked its gamers for participating in its rewards program. The company asked gamers to continue taking advantage of the other features of the rewards program. Nintendo revealed that gamers could still earn Platinum Points even after March 24 since the discontinuation only affected Gold Points rewards.
