Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind the Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Control games, has been working to churn out new projects. The studio is also currently expanding operations and working on several other projects.

Remedy Entertainment’s Max Payne updates

Remedy Entertainment revealed that the studio’s planned remake of Max Payne 1 & 2 had progressed from production readiness to the full production stage during the second quarter of 2024. The studio confirmed the progress during an investor call report. During the call, investors were also assured that the games’ development had met important milestones.

The report outlined that the developers were focused on getting the game to “an early functional state from beginning to end while focusing on key differentiating gameplay features.”

Remedy had announced that it was working with Rockstar Studios on the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes as a singular title in 2022.

At the time, Tero Virtala, Remedy Entertainment CEO, also announced that the remake of the fan-favorite Max Payne games would be released for PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5. Virtala also confirmed that Rockstar Games would fund the project, stating that it would provide Remedy with “the chance to bring the story, action, and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

Since then, Remedy has provided regular updates about the collaborative project. In April 2023, Remedy provided a report that confirmed that the project had reached the proof-of-concept stage. In October 2023, Remedy confirmed that the project was at the production readiness stage. The last update was issued in April 2024, confirming that the game had reached the full-production stage.

Remedy provides updates on other projects

Remedy Entertainment also assured investors that the studio could effectively manage and execute the multiple projects in development. CFO

Santtu Kallionpää emphasized Remedy’s readiness to manage multiple high-budget projects, including Control 2,  FBC Firebreak (formerly Codename Condor), and Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes, without compromising project timelines or quality.

Remedy stated that relationships with partners such as Annapurna and Tencent enabled it to secure financing for games such as Control 2. The partnerships would also enable partners such as Annapurna to explore television and film adaptations for Remedy’s IPs, such as Control and Alan Wake, creating opportunities for transmedia expansion.

The Finnish game studio announced that Control 2 had progressed to the production readiness stage. The milestone came after Remedy acquired full publishing rights for the Control franchise, enabling a more integrated development and publishing strategy.

Additionally, Remedy officially announced FBC Firebreak, a three-player cooperative multiplayer set in the Control universe, slated for a 2025 release. Remedy revealed that Firebreak will be available across multiple platforms, including Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, from day one.
