Newegg might accept Shiba Inu (SHIB) for payments

TL;DR

TL;DR Breakdown:

  • Electronics retailer Newegg may be considering adding Shiba Inu for payments on its marketplace.
  • The company made a tweet, asking the SHIB team to message them to clarify some of their questions.
  • SHIB/USD is now supported on both Gemini and Binance.US.

A new tweet from Newegg on Saturday suggests that the PC components and electronics marketplace could be considering enlisting the popular meme-cryptocurrency Shiba Inu (SHIB) as another payment currency.

Newegg might add Shiba Inu for payments

In the tweet, Newegg tagged the official Twitter handle for Shiba and the lead developer Shytoshi Kusama. The company requested that the Shiba Inu team should message them to answer some of their questions. The Shiba Inu community became euphoric over the tweet, speculating that Newegg might be planning to start accepting payments in SHIB.

It is worth noting that Newegg already accepts payments in Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, including Dogecoin. Perhaps, this is the reason the SHIB community is hopeful that the token will score a listing on the electronics marketplace as payment currency, which is already the case with the world’s leading entertainment giant, AMC Theatres.

SHIB on the spotlight

The past months have been supportive of the Dogecoin-inspired token, raging from the growing number of holders to the listing on several exchanges and payment networks. On November 17, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss’ cryptocurrency exchange Gemini began custody and trading of SHIB with USD. Today, the United States arm of Binance also announced it opened a SHIB/USD.

Meanwhile, SHIB has been struggling to make any notable increase for the last seven days. At the current market value of $0.00004609, the token is down by more than 47% from the all-time high of $0.00008845 on October 25, according to CoinMarketCap. Amidst the bear market, SHIB shaded has 10% of its market cap within the past 24hrs to $25 billion – now the 12th largest cryptocurrency.
