GTA 6 release in Fall 2025? Take-Two CEO still leaves room for doubt

- Based on Take-Two Interactive’s CEO statements, there is still a possibility of delay in the GTA 6 release.
- The company is playing safe by not announcing the specific date in the game’s release window.
- The CEO said, “As soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things.”
Take-Two Interactive has reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in fall 2025, maintaining the timeline first announced in December 2023. However, based on his statements, the CEO still doesn’t seem entirely sure.
In a recent interview, CEO Strauss Zelnick talked about why no specific release date has been given yet. He said, “We’ve announced a pretty narrow window. So I think our view is that right now, that’s fine.”
He emphasized that Rockstar will make the announcement “when it’s appropriate.” The company displays positive confidence in its release schedule but still isn’t certain about the specific date, leaving room for any further delay.
Previously, GTA 5 and RDR 2 also experienced delays in their release. Similarly, Zelnick acknowledged in a discussion with VentureBeat that the GTA 6 release date can also be pushed ahead. He said, “It’s always a possibility in our business.”
However, he reiterated that Take-Two has given a narrow window for upcoming titles. He said, “It is February, and we’ve outlined the release schedule through to the calendar year-end.”
Mafia: The Old Country is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2025, and GTA 6 in the fall. Therefore, an approaching release becomes a strong reason to announce the exact dates.
Recently, Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA Games, shared his willingness to delay Battlefield until the next fiscal year, depending on whether competitive games like GTA 6 clash with its schedule.
Take-Two CEO doesn’t want to “jinx” GTA 6 release period
Take Two’s careful optimism was more apparent when Zelnick told IGN, “Look, there’s always a risk of slippage, and I think as soon as you say words like absolutely, you jinx things.”
He said, “Rockstar seeks perfection” in its projects, and therefore, he never claims “success before it occurs.” The team wants to give their best to the game’s development. He also admitted that the game is highly awaited and that the competition is too high.
Although Take-Two maintains optimism about the fall 2025 release date Zelnich has still left several hints for potential delays. Meanwhile, GTA fans expect continued updates from Rockstar Games until the announced release period.
