Ripple invests in ZILO and Licuido to expand capital markets on XRPL
  • Ripple has invested undisclosed sums in two British firms, ZILO and Licuido.
  • The company said the deals deepen its push into capital markets.
  • XRPL is set for a major upgrade in the coming days.

Ripple has tapped two UK-based companies to expand its capital markets infrastructure.

The company announced Monday that it made strategic investments in ZILO and Licuido.

The financial terms were not disclosed. However, Ripple said the investment builds on already-existing partnerships with the companies.

Ripple invests in ZILO and Licuido

ZILO provides transfer agency and fund administration technology for managing tokenized assets, while Licuido handles issuance, distribution, and execution of traditional assets as digital collateral.

The deal with both companies will see Ripple harness these capabilities to bring regulated transfer agency, issuance, and collateral mobility to capital markets on XRPL.

The announcement extends a capital-markets strategy Ripple has been assembling in public for months.

In February, Cryptopolitan reported that Ripple had partnered with Aviva Investors, a manager overseeing $345 billion in net assets as of 2025, to tokenize fund structures on XRPL.

Nigel Khakoo, SVP, Trading and Markets at Ripple, emphasized that the real value of tokenization lies in the ability to trade, settle, borrow, and lend the tokens.

“ZILO and Licuido provide core capabilities that are essential to further scaling this shift: regulated digital transfer agency infrastructure and liquidity for issuance and collateral mobility,” Khakoo said.

Ripple deepens tokenization efforts

Ripple has been actively pursuing efforts to promote tokenization, whilst preparing its network XPRL for the shift.

On August 1, Cryptopolitan reported that XRPL is preparing for its next major upgrades, which include features to improve tokenization and institutional finance.

The upgrade “xrpld 3.3.0” is expected to be released next week.

In other news, Ripple is part of a 54-firm task force formed by the UK government to push tokenization into the country’s wholesale financial markets.

The firms are expected to build live, end-to-end use cases, starting with tokenized repo over the next 12 months.

Other members of the task force include Circle, Coinbase, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Morgan Stanley.

FAQs

Which two companies did Ripple invest in and what do they do?

Ripple invested in ZILO, which supplies transfer-agency and fund-administration technology, and Licuido, which handles token issuance, distribution, and secondary trading with fund units usable as collateral. Both are UK-based firms and prior Ripple partners.

How much did Ripple pay for the stakes?

Ripple did not disclose the investment amounts, the ownership stakes it received, or any financial targets for the deals. Both ZILO and Licuido separately confirmed the funding.

What role does RLUSD play in Ripple's tokenization plan?

Ripple plans to use its RLUSD stablecoin as the cash leg in delivery-versus-payment transactions, so a tokenized fund and its payment settle together on the XRP Ledger, allowing the fund to act as collateral from the point of issuance.
