X is back up after being down for roughly an hour, though it is still unclear what actually caused the disruption.
Today’s outage adds to a string of issues the platform faced last year. In May, the service went offline for several hours after a fire broke out at a data center in Oregon.
Then in November, X was hit again when Cloudflare Inc. suffered a major network outage that affected multiple online services.
Two weeks ago, Cryptopolitan reported that Elon Musk said he is combining two of the companies he leads, SpaceX and xAI, which owns X.
Elon announced that “SpaceX has acquired xAI” to build what he described as a deeply integrated innovation engine connecting AI, rockets, satellite internet, direct-to-mobile communications and X’s real-time information platform.
Elon added that this move marks “the next chapter” in the companies’ mission to scale technology in a way that pushes intelligence beyond Earth.
He also pointed to the limits of current AI infrastructure, saying today’s advances rely on massive data centers that consume huge amounts of power and cooling.
According to Elon, global electricity demand for AI cannot realistically be met long term using only terrestrial solutions without straining communities and the environment.
Last thing Elon has tweeted today is “Starlink is awesome. Great bandwidth and low latency anywhere on Earth. And soon off Earth.”
