The tech firm also forecasted a drop in sales and profits in the next fiscal year due to an anticipated decrease in hardware sales.

The firm forecasted a strong financial year ahead with the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, expected in June. The firm announced Ghost of Yotei will launch in October, building on the success of Ghost of Tsushima, which sold over 13 million copies across both PC and PlayStation.

Sony says PlayStation 5 topped sales

In its financial report, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed it shipped 75 million PS5 consoles as of December 2024. The tech company sold 9.5 million PlayStation consoles from October to December. Sony noted that console sales increased by 1.3 million units from the equivalent quarter in the previous year, when it sold 8.2 million consoles.

The firm announced there were over 11.6 million first-party titles for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Japanese tech firm reiterated that its first-party games sales were down 0.7 million from 12.3 million in the previous year. In the last fiscal quarter, Sony relied on third-party games, with only two exclusives: the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster and the Until Dawn remake, which was also released on PC.

The firm revealed that the total sales for its games and consoles skyrocketed by 16% compared to the equivalent quarter in the previous year. Sony noted that titles like Helldivers 2 and Astro Bot helped it expand its offerings into family and live-service gaming markets.

The tech company added that its PS Plus revenue increased by 20%. The firm noted that the 20% growth was achieved as a result of many users choosing more expensive subscription options.
