PlayStation reveals free PS4 and PS5 games for PlayStation Plus subscribers

In this post:

  • PlayStation revealed that RoboCop: Rogue City, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory will be free on PS Plus in April.
  • The three games will be available from April 1 to May 5 for all subscription plans under PS Plus and will be available only through the duration of gamers’ PS Plus subscription.
  • The entertainment company also recently revealed that gamers could purchase a variety of titles at a discount on the PS Spring Sale.

Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed in a March 26 blog the free monthly games for PlayStation Plus subscribers for April 2025. The three games, which will be available from April 1 to May 5, include RoboCop: Rogue City, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Sony confirmed that the games will be available for all three tiers of PS Plus subscription.

RoboCop: Rogue City will be available only for PS5 hardware, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for PS4 and PS5, and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth—Hacker’s Memory for PS4 gamers only. RoboCop: Rogue City is a standard shooter game released in 2023 and ranked among the best shooter games of the year. The game has a 9/10 rating on Steam and is set to receive a standalone expansion soon through the RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a slasher horror game that allows gamers to take on the role of the members of the Slaughter family or their victims. The game is based on a classic horror movie with the same title from 1978. Gamers who choose to be members of the Slaughter family hunt down victims while, as victims, gamers should use strategies to escape the Slaughter family.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth—Hacker’s Memory, on the other hand, is an RPG game developed by Media.Vision and published by the Japanese video game publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment in 2017. The game revolves around the protagonist, Keisuke Amazawa, who is falsely accused of a crime and has to dive into the digital world to prove his innocence. The game has a Mixed/Average review of 73 and a user score of 7.7 on Metacritic.

Sony reminded gamers that the March monthly games for PlayStation Plus subscribers would no longer be available from March 31. The entertainment company encouraged gamers to add Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, and Sonic Colors: Ultimate to their libraries before the deadline.

PlayStation Store Spring Sale begins

Sony Interactive launched the PlayStation Store Spring Sale on March 26, which offered about 200 game titles at a discount. The sale will end on April 23 at 23:59 GMT, while a refresh to the catalog will happen on April 9 to replace some of the offers. The discounts will be up to 75%, with some of the notable offers including a 20% discount on Baldur’s Gate 3, a 40% discount on Elden Ring, and a 30% discount on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – Cross-Gen Bundle.

Gamers can also get discounts on Assassin’s Creed games, Dragon Age: The Veilguard—Deluxe Edition, Civilization VI Anthology Upgrade, Destiny 2, Conan Exiles, Dead by Daylight, Demon Slayer, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, The Sims 4, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, and Star Wars Outlaws.

While some gamers are ready to enjoy the discounts, others are disappointed that 8 titles from the PS Plus will be discontinued beginning April 1. The 8 titles include Tales of Kezera: ZAU, Deliver Us Mars, Stray Blade, Animal Well, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Slay the Spire, Miasma Chronicles, and Nour: Play with Your Food.

Sony still plans to discontinue PS4 games from the monthly games catalog

Sony still plans to discontinue PlayStation 4 games from its monthly games catalog for PS Plus subscribers as per an announcement from January. The entertainment conglomerate explained that most of the gamers using PS hardware had migrated to the PS5 console. The company insisted that for that reason, Sony will focus more on offering PS5 games while moving away from PS4 offerings.

The announcement further highlighted that the games will be discontinued from the PlayStation Plus monthly catalogs beginning January 2026 but would occasionally appear on the line-ups in the Plus Monthly Game Catalog and the PS Game Catalog. The company insisted that all the PS4 games already redeemed will not be affected by the updates.

PS users expressed mixed reactions toward the new updates, with some thinking that it was about time for gamers to shift to the new console. One Redditor commented that Sony had supported PS4 for years despite the release of PS5, adding that the same amount of support was unheard of. Another Redditor still mentioned that they were unsure whether to shift to PS5, considering their access to over 100 PS4 games through the old console and a PS Plus Extra subscription.
