US seeks blockchain security solution with Danube Tech

The United States (US) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded Danube Tech a $143,478 grant to develop a blockchain security solution for the agency. 

In an official press release issued this week, DHS officially announced a partnership with the Austrian tech developer. According to the statement, the goal of the joint project is to develop and test out a blockchain security solution, which will help improve internal processes at the DHS.

The press release also details that DHS intends to apply the newly developed technology to improve data storage and safekeeping at the US Customs and Border Protection.

Not only that, but the blockchain security solution will also aim to improve the verification process of personal papers and certificates processed by Immigration authorities.

According to the official statements, Danube Tech was awarded the grant as part of a DHS Science and Technology Directorate program, looking for innovation and developments in security technology.

The program called Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) consists of four different phases of funding, which can amount to a maximum of $800,000. Danube Tech managed to secure approval for phase one of SVIP.

Government bets on blockchain

The Department of Homeland Security is not the only one in the US government looking to improve its services via blockchain technology.

Recently, the Department of Defence also announced plans to look into ways to employ the benefits of blockchain technology for improving cybersecurity in the country. 

The US government and many of its departments are realizing the potential blockchain can bring to their internal systems.
