Bybit brings U.S. stock ownership, perpetuals and CFDs under one crypto account

As the lines between traditional finance and crypto continue to blur, Bybit is giving users more ways to access U.S. equities, whether they want to own shares for the long term or trade short-term market movements.

For years, investing in U.S. stocks and trading cryptocurrencies meant navigating two different financial ecosystems. Traditional brokerages offered equity ownership, dividends and long-term investment opportunities, while crypto exchanges catered to traders seeking flexibility, leverage and around-the-clock market access.

That distinction is beginning to fade.

As digital assets become increasingly integrated with traditional finance, crypto platforms are expanding beyond cryptocurrencies to offer exposure to conventional financial markets.

Bybit, which serves more than 80 million users globally, is among the platforms driving this shift. Through its expanding stock offerings, users can access U.S. equities in different ways, depending on whether their goal is long-term ownership or short-term trading.

The distinction comes down to a simple question: Do you want to own the stock or trade its price?

Direct ownership of 1,000+ U.S. stocks and ETFs, paid for in USDC

For investors interested in building portfolios around publicly traded companies, Bybit offers access to more than 1,000 U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs, including Apple, NVIDIA, Tesla and the Invesco QQQ ETF.

Unlike derivatives that track stock prices, stocks trading through Bybit gives eligible users direct economic ownership of the underlying securities.

Trades are routed through regulated brokerage infrastructure and executed by Alpaca, a U.S. self-clearing broker-dealer that also provides custody for the underlying assets.

One of the main advantages is convenience. Rather than transferring funds to a separate brokerage account, investors can purchase stocks using USDC, allowing them to manage crypto and equity exposure within the same broader platform.

The offering also brings familiar benefits of traditional stock investing into the digital asset environment. Investors can receive cash dividends, converted into USDC and credited to their Unified Trading Account, while stock dividends and corporate actions are reflected in their holdings.

Importantly, shares are purchased outright without leverage, eliminating the forced liquidation risk associated with margin-based derivatives.

Fractional shares, no trading commission and 24/5 access

Bybit has also lowered barriers to entry through fractional share trading, allowing users to invest specific USDC amounts rather than purchasing entire shares. Eligible trades carry no trading commission, although a small per-order platform service fee applies, and there are no ongoing holding charges.

Eligible securities can also be traded 24 hours a day, five days a week, including overnight and extended U.S. market sessions.

However, stock trading remains unavailable on weekends, sale proceeds follow standard T+1 settlement, and shareholder voting rights are planned for a future phase.

For investors seeking exposure to U.S. companies without leaving the crypto ecosystem, the offering provides an alternative to maintaining separate brokerage and exchange accounts.

TradFi perpetuals bring leverage and 24/7 trading to U.S. equities

While long-term investors may prioritize ownership and dividends, active traders often have different objectives.

Rather than holding shares, they may want to capitalize on short-term volatility, speculate on falling prices or use leverage to increase market exposure.

Bybit addresses this demand through TradFi Perpetuals, derivatives that track U.S. stock prices without requiring ownership of the underlying shares.

Built on the same infrastructure as Bybit’s crypto perpetual contracts, these instruments allow traders to take long or short positions, use leverage and deploy familiar tools such as limit orders, stop-loss orders and take-profit orders.

One distinguishing feature is 24/7 availability.

Unlike traditional stock exchanges, Bybit’s perpetual contracts can be traded around the clock, including weekends. This gives traders greater flexibility to respond to developments outside conventional market hours, although prices and liquidity may differ when underlying exchanges are closed.

Perpetual contracts also have no expiration date, removing the need to periodically roll positions into new contracts.

The trade-off: Funding costs, liquidation risk and no dividends

However, this flexibility comes with additional risks. Funding payments can increase the cost of maintaining positions, while leverage creates the possibility of liquidation if markets move against a trader.

Because these instruments are derivatives, holders do not receive dividends or shareholder rights.

For experienced crypto traders, perpetuals offer a familiar way to apply existing strategies to traditional equity markets.

CFDs on MT5 offer traditional traders a familiar route

For traders accustomed to conventional financial markets, Bybit offers another route through contracts for difference (CFDs).

Available through the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform, CFDs allow traders to speculate on stock price movements without owning the underlying shares.

The offering combines long and short trading, leverage, advanced charting, technical indicators and automated trading capabilities within an environment already familiar to many traditional traders.

Bybit TradFi also provides access to other markets, including indices, gold and oil, allowing users to trade multiple asset classes through MT5.

Unlike perpetual contracts, CFD trading follows relevant market hours. Positions typically incur overnight financing charges, and leveraged trades may be closed if margin requirements are not maintained.

For traders familiar with CFDs, the appeal lies in accessing equities and other traditional markets through established trading tools within Bybit’s broader ecosystem.

Own the company or trade its price: One platform, different strategies

The expansion of stock-related products on crypto exchanges reflects a broader shift in how investors access financial markets.

Historically, users had to choose between traditional brokerages designed for investing and crypto exchanges focused on digital asset trading. Bybit’s approach brings these experiences closer together while recognizing that different strategies require different instruments.

An investor seeking long-term exposure to Apple or NVIDIA can purchase underlying shares, receive dividends and hold positions without ongoing financing costs.

An active trader looking to capitalize on short-term movements in those same stocks can instead use perpetual contracts, accessing leverage, short-selling and 24/7 trading.

Meanwhile, traders familiar with MT5 can use CFDs to access equities alongside commodities and indices.

These products are not interchangeable. Direct shares provide economic ownership, while perpetuals and CFDs offer exposure to price movements with additional costs and risks.

As traditional finance and crypto continue to converge, the opportunity extends beyond simply making more assets available. It is about giving users greater flexibility in how they access and participate in financial markets.

For Bybit, that means bringing different investment and trading strategies into one ecosystem, whether users want to own a company or trade its price.
