Ubisoft confirms Watch Dogs movie filming has begun

In this post:

  • Ubisoft announced the beginning of the Watch Dogs movie on X after over 10 years of planning.
  • Mathieu Turi is the film’s director, while some of the top cast includes actors Tom Blythe and Sophie Wilde.
  • The game franchise Watch Dogs first aired in 2014, and the second and third were released in 2016 and 2020, respectively.

Ubisoft announced on X that the Watch Dogs movie filming had begun. Since Watch Dogs is a video game focused on hacking, many speculated about the man behind a computer on the Ubisoft X post. However, since Ubisoft has not disclosed anything about the plot, many have speculated whether the movie will follow the same storyline. According to Culture Crave on X, the Watch Dogs movie setting will be in the same universe as the game.

Watch Dogs game fans first expected the video game’s adaptation to start production in 2014. Over 10 years down the line, people showed mixed reactions about Watch Dogs’ production on X, with some commenting, “Are they still trying to make this?” Others had a more positive outlook, hoping the movie would be great.

Ubisoft announces Watch Dogs’ cast and director

Ubisoft revealed the Watch Dogs movie cast and director in its blog post. The blog mentioned French director Mathieu Turi as the director behind Watch Dogs. The clapper board on Ubisoft’s X post also confirmed this news, highlighting the top cinematographer, Daniele Massaccesi.

The French director Mathieu Turi is well-known for directing movies like The Deep Dark, Hostile, Meander, and more. Since these announcements, multiple profiling websites updated his works, indicating him as Watch Dogs director.

Ubisoft mentioned New Regency as the film production company behind Watch Dogs. New Regency provided two producers for Watch Dogs, Natalie Lehmann and Yariv Milchan. Ubisoft Film & TV also has its producer on board, Margaret Boykin. Christie LeBlanc and Victoria Bata handled Watch Dogs’ screenplay.

Ubisoft focuses on other developments

Ubisoft has been making headlines this year due to Assassin’s Creed Shadows and XDefiant. While Assassin’s Creed Shadows has yet to launch, XDefiant has made significant strides since its launch on May 21. The first-person shooter game acquired over 11 million players a little over a month after its launch.

Let’s look at XDefiant. There’s a lot of work to do, but it was able to attract 11 million players in a short time.

Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO

Yves Guillemot, also hinted at multiple remakes of Assassin’s Creed games. While he did not reveal the titles, he promised fans many games this year and in the future.
