Trump plans an AI Force and an unnamed AI czar, says AI could hit 25% of GDP

President Donald Trump promised to create an “AI Force” and appoint a new “AI Czar.” He called superintelligence warnings a hoax and said AI could be as much as a quarter of US economic output.

Trump laid out the plan in a post on Truth Social Saturday. He likened the AI Force to the Space Force he created in his first term.
His idea of Washington’s job was to boost the industry, with existing courts left to catch wrongdoing.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!” the president wrote.
He said bad actors could be dealt with “very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System.”
The same post scoffed at fears of a menacing superintelligence as a hoax.
The AI Czar pick would fill a seat vacant for months. In December 2024, Trump named venture capitalist David Sacks as White House A.I. and Crypto Czar.
Sacks said in March 2026 that his tenure as a special government employee had ended. He brushed off concerns that AI could be a threat to humanity as exaggerated earlier this month, while admitting some caution is warranted.
Chris Fall, the Commerce Department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation director, resigned in July after about three months, according to Cryptopolitan. NIST chief Arvind Raman took over the center on an acting basis.
Klobuchar, Cruz, and Thune draft a duty of care for frontier developers
Trump called AI “the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet,” only bigger. As the US vies with China, it could reach “possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP,” he wrote.
Trump brushed aside warnings about AI risks as “very negative forces” at his Doonbeg golf club in Ireland. “Whoever wins AI wins,” said Trump.
In 2026, global AI investment is projected to reach ~$1 trillion, Cryptopolitan reported. Of that, about $581 billion goes to the US.
Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon accused Anthropic and OpenAI on September 8 of gambling with lives by chasing self-improving superintelligence.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said there are real dangers and that the industry misled people about the technology’s risks.
According to Cryptopolitan, a bipartisan AI safety bill is being drafted by Senators Amy Klobuchar, Ted Cruz, and John Thune. It would place a legal “duty of care” on frontier developers and allow the government to block the release of unsafe models.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has endorsed “some guardrails, some safety measures.” Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries called on lawmakers to “act urgently.”
