Sega has announced that Sonic X Shadow Generations had more than 1 million sales that too on its launch day.
The game was widely launched on PS5 and PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on Steam and Epic Games Store simultaneously.
In the press release, SEGA stated that one of the main reasons for the sales was also the 12 languages support to reach a wider audience.
Furthermore, the company will focus on expanding the Sonic brand into different transmedia, like films and merchandise. This year’s theme is also “Fearless: Year of Shadow,” as the Sonic IP will focus on global initiatives with the spotlight on Shadow.
Sega’s mobile game, Sonic Rumble is also coming out soon
Sega also plans to introduce a mobile game, Sonic Rumble, this season. Furthermore, the “Knuckles” series will be released on Paramount. By the end of the year, in December, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will have its global release.
The story of Sonic X Shadow Generations revolves around the occurrence of an entity causing distortions in time and space. This entity is named “Time Eater”. The distortions cause the separation of Sonic and Shadow and send them off on distinct adventures.
The stages in the game allow the players to play both Sonic, the classic, and its modern version, Shadow. Shadow’s involvement in the game has brought the darker environments in the Sonic universe with dynamic gameplay. The game is positioned as a high-speed action adventure by Sega which balances each version of Sonic with unique gameplay and narrative style.
The milestone of 1 million sales within a day lays out a path for Sega in leveraging the popularity of the signature franchise.
