As noted by gaming leaker Shpeshal Nick on X (previously Twitter), Rocksteady Studios is rumored to be back in the development of a new Batman game. In response to a post about which studio should be making the next Batman game, he posted that Rocksteady is “back making it.” Furthermore, Nick hinted that Sony may be in talks to obtain exclusive rights to the project. Neither Rocksteady nor its parent company, Warner Bros. Games, has confirmed these claims.
Not sure which studio people’s dream is, but I heard Rocksteady are back making it. I also think Sony are trying to moneyhat it lol https://t.co/EfcyRKWdZI

If it is true, then Rocksteady will have worked on a Batman game for the first time since 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, which was the last part of the Arkham trilogy. Since then, Rocksteady ceased to be a Batman-centered studio and began working on projects such as 2016’s Arkham VR and 2023’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which faced a poor reception. More recent rumors, however, point out that the studio may be going back to a traditional Batman game.
Sony reportedly negotiating for exclusive Batman Game rights
According to Shpeshal Nick, Sony is reportedly planning to acquire some form of exclusivity for the rumored Batman game. The Leak suggested that Sony might be trying to ”moneyhat” the project which means PlayStation users may either get full platform exclusivity or timed access to the game. Even though Sony has pursued major developers such as Final Fantasy XVI in securing exclusivity deals, there has not yet been any statement as to whether such discussions are continuing.
If Rocksteady is indeed working on a new Batman game, the next big question is which direction the game will take. With the release of Arkham Knight, the Arkham franchise concluded Batman’s story leaving the fans in curiosity whether the studio is going to continue from where it left off or take the game in a new direction. Another aspect that raises concern is whether it will stick to a single-player gameplay concept of the Arkham games or take a leap in following the live-service model, that Warner Bros. has highly embraced.
Since no official announcements have been given, the schedule for the game’s release is still unknown, with any possible launch likely several years away if the project is at its earliest developmental stages. Fans will wait for more information from Rocksteady or Warner Bros.
