Lenovo introduces Qira AI platform and futuristic devices at CES

In this post:

  • Lenovo has launched a new AI platform called Qira, along with several proof-of-concept devices.
  • The company showcased AI glasses equipped with a camera and microphones, but they are not yet operational.
  • Lenovo also introduced laptops and displays with AI features, like posture and eye-strain detection.

Lenovo Group Ltd. aims to strengthen its position as a key competitor in the AI sector by striving to become the leading global PC manufacturer.  In an attempt to fulfill this desire, the Chinese multinational technology company adopted various approaches in its operations. The most recent developments include the launch of a new artificial intelligence platform and several proof-of-concept devices.

During a CES keynote in Las Vegas on Tuesday, January 6, the tech giant announced that the new platform, known as Qira, is designed to work with products from Lenovo and its Motorola brand.

Lenovo seeks to become a leader in the tech ecosystem

Reporters requested that Lenovo executives participate in an interview to comment on the reasons behind their growing interest in the AI field. Responding to this call, the executives stated that the technology is crucial to their operations. According to them, AI is incorporated at the system level, which they describe as “ambient” artificial intelligence.

With this comprehensive integration, reports from reliable sources disclosed that users will not be required to open a separate app, similar to how they do with well-known chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the Beijing-based tech firm made these announcements public at a time when a presentation was taking place at the Sphere, one of the key events of the week-long CES trade show.

Apart from Lenovo, other significant tech firms that participated in this event included Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. Regarding their participation, sources pointed out that these two tech giants used this opportunity to emphasize the key importance of AI in the industry. They perceived this technology as a significant feature for the next generation of laptops, TVs, phones, wearables, and other consumer devices.

Lenovo also unveiled a newly launched Legion laptop prototype that features a display that slides to the side, enhancing the screen experience. This move demonstrated part of the tech company’s extensive series of innovative ideas, which also includes other laptops with an expandable display.

Another thing that was uncovered was that Lenovo’s idea regarding AI glasses is centered on Qira, which can link wirelessly to a smart device and provide features such as live translation, image recognition, and context awareness.

Interestingly, sources found that the glasses were non-functional, despite being showcased at a CES media event. The company also provided no additional details about these AI glasses. What has been revealed is that the device weighs 45 grams and features an advanced camera and two microphones. Regarding the display, Lenovo confirmed that it includes a lens.

Individuals expressed excitement about these updates, especially when the tech giant noted that it has made improvements to the battery, which can now last for around eight hours, similar to Metal’s recently released smart glasses. Notably, in this category, Meta Platforms Inc. leads the way.

Several tech firms implement AI updates to their products

Lenovo has incorporated several innovative features into its Smart Sense Display concept. Sources with knowledge of the situation noted that this display utilizes cameras to enable it to recognize certain users and make some adjustments to the settings for each one.

With its built-in camera, it can detect poor posture or signs of eye strain, thereby transforming this display into an unexpected wellness tracker.

As these changes take place, the gaming accessories brand Razer Inc., which is less popular in the AI ecosystem, released a statement this week, noting that it will embrace new strategies to promote its own updates regarding AI by announcing a new lineup of products for gamers, clients, and coders.

During an interview, Min-Liang Tan, the co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Razer Inc., stated that the company is committed to making significant investments of over $600 million in AI in the future.
