Grayscale lets investors swap crypto for ETP shares across 10 funds

- Grayscale turned on in-kind investing across 10 crypto ETPs.
- The feature lets eligible investors swap tokens directly for fund shares instead of selling for cash first.
- It matters to crypto holders who want regulated fund exposure, margin and estate-planning options without self-custody, and it follows the SEC’s July 2025 approval of in-kind creation and redemption for spot crypto funds.
DIgital asset investment platform, Grayscale, has announced a new feature which allows eligible investors to exchange their crypto directly for shares in 10 of its exchange-traded products (ETPs). The new in-kind transfers let investors use the crypto they already own to buy fund shares instead of selling their coins for cash before investing.
How in-kind transfers work and why they matter
Grayscale describes itself as the world’s largest digital asset investment platform by assets under management as of September 30, 2026. The company said in-kind transfers could make investing easier by reducing the need for investors to manage their own crypto wallets. The method could also lower trading costs.
The method is also becoming more common in the US Bitcoin ETP market. Where in-kind transactions are available, their share of Bitcoin ETP activity rose from 28% in March to 62% in June, showing that more activity was taking place through direct exchanges of assets rather than cash-based transactions.
