Espanyol is set to become the first club out of Spain to enable its supporters leverage crypto to pay for the clubs products. As per the announcement, the Catalonia based football club supporters are open to purchase club tickets and other merchandise using specific crypto. Espanyol also announced that individuals can also products at the clubs home matches. This update is scheduled to kick into effect when the next footballing season kicks off in August.
Espanyol fans can use crypto in August
The footballing world have witnessed an immersive experience with crypto products and companies for a while now. Football clubs have continued to ink partnerships with crypto platforms over the last few seasons. A typical one is Manchester United, an English football club announcing its partnership with Tezos. Another is Watford announcing a full partnership with platform, Stake.com.
In the statement that was culled from Crypto Snack, supporters who prefer to use crypto will be able to use Bitcoin and a few other listed assets. In order to provide supporters with seamless service, the club also announced that it has teamed up with Estonia based Crypto Snack. The company boasts a branch close to the company in Barcelona, where some core activities are carried out from. Asides offering crypto payment services, the platform has its native token, SNACK, which is used for gaming. Supporters will also be allowed to pay for goods with the platforms native token.
Crypto is making an entrance into football
In his reaction to the update, Mao Ye Wu, a top executive at the club mentioned that the partnership will benefit both entities majorly. He mentioned that supporters would can enjoy certain benefits that come with paying with crypto. In his opinion, the crypto exchange executive, Stuart Morison mentioned that he was happy to partner with RCD Espanyol and expects the fans to back the club through using tokens.
Asides from RCD Espanyol, a football club in Mexico, Tigre has also chosen to adopt digital assets on its platform. With the new update, supporters will be able to purchase tickets to see the teams matches with several digital assets. Bitso has also been selected as the platform that will help the club facilitate payments in digital assets. The executive of Bitso expects the update to open more doors for the use of digital asset across the sporting world. However, the president of Tigers has also hinted at future adoption of crypto initiatives.
