Elon Musk has been thinking out loud on X regarding the interests of gamers. His tweet suggested a voting block for gamers. Furthermore he juxtaposed Donald Trumps well known political slogan about making America great again with “Make Games Great Again”.
We need a video gamer voting block!
Make Games Great Again!!
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 17, 2024
This isn’t the first time Musk has talked about the gaming community. Recently he also reacted to Western censorship’s influence on Japanese game developers. Furthermore, he has shared in a now-canceled Don Lemon Show that despite his busy schedule, he plays games to wind down since it helps him relax.
Elon Musk’s tweet could be out of his personal interest as well
Gamers are debating about unnecessary remasters and remakes of games. Many gamers also believe that DEI is ruining the authenticity of games and their characters.
Musk hasn’t shared a reason for why he thinks a voting block for gamers is needed. However, with ongoing debates on social media and many recent gaming flops, one can link Elon’s tweet to it.
The tweet by Musk comes out as a personal interest as well since he likes to play games like Diablo with his friends online.
Play Station ex-executive also believes in the “Collapse of creativity” in the gaming industry
According to Layden the heavy budgeted AAA games have lost the risk-taking ability. All they do is chase already set models of successful games like Fortnite rather than fostering new ones.
At Gamescom Asia, Shawn Layden, the ex Playstation executive has also highlighted how the gaming industry is going through a “collapse of creativity”. He says it is due to heavy reliance on blockbuster titles.
He also noted that the mid-tier games are limited in numbers, which previously used to be unique and innovative. He thinks that developers should be focused on the creativity of their ideas rather than monetization schemes.
The gaming industry has seen major flops in 2024, like Concord and a recent one by Sweet Baby Inc., Unknown: Awakening 9. Furthermore, Ubisoft is also losing the fanbase of Assasin’s Creed due to repetitive content.
To save themselves from risk, companies could benefit from Musk’s idea. Gamers could collectively decide what would work and what not. Moreover the interests of gamers would be highlighted for the gaming developers to take notes from.
