Coinbase struck in Apple crackdown as it removes DApp browser

Apple (AAPL) looks to be cracking down on access to decentralized applications (dapps) for users of its devices.

This is after Google removed Ethereum-based decentralized application (DApp) browser MetaMask from its Android application store.

This Apple move was made known through a Reddit post as the digital currency exchange platform said it may have to remove the DApp browser functionality from Coinbase Wallet to comply with App Store policy.

As the public wait for an official address to the situation, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong confirming the development expressed concern over Apple’s recent move in a response to the Reddit post.

Armstrong puzzled by Apple’s action

He said in his Reddit post that it is really unfortunate to see as Apple seem to be eliminating the usage of DApp from the App Store.

Armstrong further urged Apple users who want to access the app that they may need to make this request know to Apple in some way.

He said further that the deleted app is an important area of innovation in finance, and many developers and early adopters of this technology have millions of dollars’ worth of crypto tied up in these financial applications.

In compliance with the clampdown by Apple, Coinbase has equally erased all the language about the dapp browser from the App Store unlike in Google Playstore where the dapp browser is actually in the app’s name.

Apple clampdown, an action against crypto

Apple’s action could be said to be a coordinated action against crypto as the news comes shortly after Google banned Ethereum wallet and DApp browser MetaMask Google Playstore.

Apple which is clamping down on DApp for siting policy against mobile mining as its reason as Dapp from the onset did not permit.

The firms appeal to the decision has also been rejected. The firm noted in a tweet at the time.
Cryptocurrency Influencer Omar Bham suggested that the moves are supposed to protect the firms’ businesses against potential decentralized competitors.

Before now, cryptocurrency influencers started claiming that Google’s user video streaming platform YouTube started censoring their content.

Days later, YouTube restored more of the content and the firm’s team said in a tweet that the initial issue happened due to an error in the review process.
