iBoxing legend Manny Pacquiao has finally inaugurated the world’s first celebrity cryptocurrency in Manila on Sunday.
One of the greatest boxing players of all times, Manny Pacquiao is many things. Among others, is being the owner of his newly-launched cryptocurrency, the speculations of which generated substantial waves in cryptocurrency space last year.
The 2000s “Fighter of the decade,” current Senator of the Philippines, basketball enthusiast, actor, and a singer, has introduced his own token, Pac, with strong financial backing from other professional sports players, reports South China Morning Post on Sep 01.
Pacquiao leads the pack with his first celebrity cryptocurrency
At a concert packed with 2000 fans, the boxing legend brought out the launch. Pacquiao aims to make a killing on his Pac tokens by encouraging his followers to purchase merchandise and use it for interacting with him on social media.
Pacquiao’s Pac, which receives an investor backing from former English football star Michael Owen and an Emirati member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family, Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, bags listing on Singapore’s Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX).
Jeffrey Lin, CEO, and founder of GCOX, states that being the world’s first celebrity-owned token sets forth high expectations from the cryptocurrency community. Thus, the aim is not just to make big bucks but also raise awareness for the tokens and build a sustainable ecosystem.
GCOX also intends to acquire support from other prominent celebrities to improve public understanding of cryptocurrencies and address rumors surrounding them. Evan Ngow, chief communications officer at GCOX, confirms that with the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Jason Derulo, the renowned American singer, dancer, and songwriter, joining hands with the platform crosses only a few names off the long list of probable celebrity partners from future.
Meanwhile, one of the concert attendees expresses his optimism by stating that Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is a global celebrity and an idol. Initiatives made by him are bound to generate awareness and trigger curiosity surrounding the token.
