The Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE), on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Government, has partnered with Microsoft and UAE Core42, a G42 company specializing in sovereign cloud, AI infrastructure and digital services, to implement a sovereign cloud system capable of processing more than half a million daily digital interactions for Abu Dhabi government services.
The multi-year agreement between DGE, Microsoft, and Core42 was made in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, and His Excellency Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority and member of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council.
The partnership was entered into by His Excellency Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, and Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42.

Abu Dhabi’s s AI native government to be unveiled in 2027
The agreement is part of Abu Dhabi’s government aim to create to the first fully AI native government by 2027. An AI government will enhance government services for citizens and residents with increased transparency and security for businesses and investors.
Abu Dhabi government is spending $3.5 billion for digital infrastructure and over 200 AI driven solutions to boost productivity and environmental sustainability.
“AI will transform how governments operate and serve their citizens everywhere, and Abu Dhabi is leading the way,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “Through our partnership with the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi and G42, we are setting a standard for AI adoption in the public sector, as we help Abu Dhabi become the world’s first AI-native government.”
Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, explained that the agreement to develop a sovereign public cloud powered by Microsoft Azure will help to establish the AI native government, and goes beyond being a technological leap. He stated, ” It is a commitment to building a resilient, future-ready digital infrastructure for AI modernization across Abu Dhabi government entities and sets a global benchmark for innovation.”
Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in UAE AI holding company
Prior to this deal Microsoft had invested $1.5 billion in UAE-based artificial intelligence (AI) technology holding company G42. As per Microsoft, the investment aimed to strengthen the two companies’ collaboration on bringing the latest Microsoft AI technologies and skilling initiatives to the UAE and other countries around the world.
This agreement also comes days after UAE’s $100 billion AI Fund created by sovereign fund MGX invested $2 billion into Binance crypto exchange.
