Ubisoft and Arbitrum set Dec. 18 for the launch of Web3 shooter ‘Captain Laserhawk’

- Ubisoft will launch Captain Laserhawk on the Ethereum Layer-2 network, Arbitrum.
- There is free minting of Niji Warriors NFT today.
- Web3 gaming is on the rise despite NFT struggles.
Arbitrum Foundation and Ubisoft have chosen Dec. 18 as the launch date for the web3 shooter game Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. Inspired by the animated Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, the game will debut on Arbitrum.
Ubisoft, known for publishing popular franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, has featured a cast of characters from its previous titles, including Far Cry: Rayman, Assassin’s Creed, Blood Dragon, Beyond Good and Evil, The Crew, Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, and Watch Dogs.
Ubisoft has a free NFT mint for the game
While gamers await the launch in a week, a free NFT mint is happening today. Niji Warrior, the games’ NFT collection, is launching today on the Magic Eden Marketplace. The NFT allows holders to make inputs into game mechanics, map designs, and storylines. Holders of these tokens will have access to exclusive perks and the leeway to participate in community governance. They could also evolve their NFTs based on how deeply they engage.
Ubisoft’s Technical Director and Executive Producer, Didier Genevois, spoke on the project:
This project represents a new frontier in collaborative game development, where players become co-creators.
~Didier Genevois
All the 10,000 Niji warrior NFTs portray a pixel of a robot or creature. The art is similar to the artwork for Warlords NFTs, released earlier by Ubisoft’s Champions Tactics last year.
Web3 gaming continues to gain momentum
The Web3 gaming space has taken an upward trajectory, and there are signs that it’s not stopping anytime soon. Non-fungible token sales have also been growing steadily since October. The first week of November was pleasing, as the sale volumes settled at $187 million.
While NFTs are regaining attention, the Beam Foundation is preparing to launch a $150 million fund to improve Web3 gaming in Abu Dhabi.
Although the NFT sector has been struggling for years after the 2021 NFT boom, Web3 gaming, and leisure-based apps have continued to show a bullish nature as we move towards 2025.
Ubisoft’s entry into web3 gaming has been smooth due to how organized they were while venturing. The French firm included alpha and beta tests, which allowed users to give feedback, thus ensuring that game mechanics were well-balanced.
