Question 1

What charges do the ten suspects face?

Accepted Answer

All ten were charged with conspiracy to defraud. Prosecutors allege they ran a phone scam in which they pretended to be police officers or cryptocurrency company staff to trick victims into revealing wallet seed phrases, according to KentOnline.

Question 2

How did the scam actually work?

Accepted Answer

The suspects allegedly called victims while posing as law enforcement or crypto firm reps, then persuaded them to hand over their seed phrases. Those master keys gave the scammers direct access to the victims' wallets, letting them drain the funds remotely. ERSOU says no real officer or company will ever ask for a seed phrase.

Question 3

When is the next court date?

Accepted Answer

Three defendants who were remanded in custody and seven who were released on bail are all scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on May 28, 2026.
