Over the years, Sony has been ambitious about venturing into the realm of live service. The firm originally bought Bungie in 2022. After the acquisition, the firm experienced several rounds of layoffs in the subsequent years. Bungie CEO Pete Parsons said while announcing layoffs in 2024 that the firm was working with PlayStation Studios.Â
Parsons revealed the collaboration aimed to spin out one of their incubation projects. The CEO said the project was an action game which was set in a science fantasy universe. Parsons said they would form a new internal studio within PlayStation in order to continue with their ambitious projects.
Bungie recently revealed they were working on Marathon, a multiplayer shooter game. Sony also launched Concord, the hero shooter, last year. The Concord game flopped, prompting the firm to take it offline. Following this incident, Sony announced the closure of Concord’s developer Firewalk Studios.Â
