Atlanta-based rapper T I acquitted in FLiK ICO scam now looks set to enjoy his newfound freedom. The rap artist from Atlanta, Clifford Harris Jr., aka T I, has been acquitted for his role in the infamous FLiK ICO promotion. He was booked under securities fraud charges as he was involved in the promotion of the FLiK coin offering. Other defendants in the case, including Hollywood actor Kevin Hart and businessman Ryan Felton are still under trial in the same case.
The court ruled that the prosecution was not able to prove that T I’s promotion influenced the investors to put their money on the FLiK ICO.
Rapper T I acquitted in FLiK ICO scam only featured in its promotions
The U.S. Court of Northern Georgia District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. has cleared rapper T.I of all the securities fraud charges related to the FLiK scam. In 2018, the FLiK ICO investors reportedly sued rapper T I for promoting a fraudulent ‘Initial Coin Offering’ along with many other celebrities. As the $2 million FLiK ICO scam started unraveling, many prominent crypto investors lost money.
Rapper T I acquitted in FLiK ICO scam, and other celebrity defendants reportedly promoted the ‘pump-and-dump’ scheme. The judge found that the arguments of T I’s counsel were valid and delivered the judgment in his favor. He said that the defendant merely urged his followers on Twitter to visit the FLiK ICO website. Harris did not provide the plaintiffs with any FLiK token values, and there’s no statement to prove the same. Furthermore, the court also ruled that T I did not break any Georgia Uniform Securities Act rules during the FLiK ICO promotion since ICO participants did not have any relation with the state of Georgia.
Celebrities linked to ICOs now feeling the heat
At the peak of the crypto frenzy, celebrities were roped in by popular projects for promotional activities. FLiK ICO was one such fraudulent project that involved rapper T.I, who ultimately was involved in the imbroglio. Similarly, Floyd Mayweather and DJ Khaled settled their claims with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
As rapper T I acquitted in FLiK ICO scam looks forward to his freedom, it remains to be seen whether the court will be lenient with Kevin Hart or not.
