Nintendo previously announced that its Switch 2 Direct was scheduled to launch on April 2. After numerous rumours and speculation, the company launched the Switch successor in January.Â
Nintendo did not reveal details on the successor in the January announcement. The company promised a closer look at the Switch 2 in an upcoming showcase before the April Direct.Â
Gamers speculated they would see more of the original Switch games in the surprise Direct. They highlighted that the company had already announced that Switch 2 would be backwards-compatible with physical and digital original Switch games.Â
The video game company added that gamers could play their existing library on the new console. It noted that some games would not be supported or fully compatible. Gamers said that they expected a few remasters of older games, such as Kirby: Planet Robobot. They suggested other 3D titles would also get remakes in the original Switch update.Â
Gamers speculated that they might get more information on Metroid Prime 4:Beyond as part of the updated system launch lineup. They also added that, as is the norm in presentations, they might get more games added to the Switch online service.Â
Report indicates Nintendo will release Switch 2 games in three phases in 2025Â
A recent report indicated that the video game company would launch its Switch 2 games in three phases. The company will reportedly release first-party games on the console’s launch, which is predicted to be in June.Â

The report indicated that the second phase would be in October-November, focusing more on third-party studios. It suggested that the final phase would be launched at the end of November and December, when more new switch games would roll out.
The report highlighted that select creators and press members were invited to a Switch 2 hands-on event next week and that they would be among the first to play some launch games.
Gamers said they expected to hear more about the Switch 2 price and release date on the April 2 Direct and learn more about the games coming to the console. The video game company also announced the Switch 2 hands-on tour, which will take place in April. The company revealed the console would be available to play in London on April 11.
Nintendo said the tour would run to the beginning of June before the Switch launches. The company said gamers could access their  Switch 2 experience tickets by visiting the website when the tickets go live. It noted that the tickets would be made available through a free-to-enter, randomly selected draw. The company added that gamers could join the draw any time after the registration period began for a chance to attend.Â
Nintendo presented limitations, such as requiring all ticket holders to have an account and that groups have an account linked to the same family group. It added that gamers could acquire the tickets individually or as a group of up to six people.
The company added that any gamer under sixteen can have a parent or guardian create an account for a child as part of the family group. Shortly after the console was announced, it was revealed that the Switch 2 Joycons would have mouse functionality. Â
