Niantic has confirmed the return of Pikachu Pop Star and Rock Star along with the release of the new studded jacket Snorlax. This is for the upcoming Wild Area event for Pokemon GO. The worldwide event is scheduled for November 23 and 24, 2024 and there will be exclusive Pokemon encounters through 3-star raids and special research challenges.
Moreover, the event will be featuring Pikachu Pop Star and Rock Star’s shiny variants for the very first time amongst participating players. What stands out in the event, however, is the debut of a costumed Snorlax, wearing a black studded jacket, available in raids for global players and in the wild for participants in Fukuoka, Japan.

The special Snorlax wearing a black studded jacket will be introduced to players for the first time during this event in Pokémon GO. This Snorlax can be obtained by global participants in 3-star raids, while players attending the event in Fukuoka, Japan will be able to, encounter this Snorlax in the wild.
Even though it can be accessed globally, some players are left disappointed with the fact that the studded jacket Snorlax can only be obtained through raids for the global event. Players who want the special Snorlax available in the wild will have to participate in the Japan-specific event or take on the challenge of 3-star raids.
Pikachu Pop Star and Rock Star return with a twist
One more significant draw of the event is that Pikachu Pop Star and Pikachu Rock Star will be returning after being in hiding since the 2021 GO Fest. For the first time, however, players will be able to find these musical-themed Pikachus in their shiny variants. Nonetheless, these variants of Pikachu will be accessible only to holders of these Wild Area tickets, and can only be engaged via Special Research quests, Collection Challenges, or the GO Snapshot feature.
The shiny odds for these variants of Pikachu are quite low with a 1 in 512 encountering one. This rarity is anticipated to attract definite players and fans who like shiny hunting. Many players have been waiting for the comeback of these costumed Pikachu and the introduction of shiny variants adds more motivation to take part in the event.
Players unlock early access to Toxel Mask and exclusive rewards
Players who participate in the Pokémon GO Wild Area: Global event by purchasing tickets before October 22, 2024, will receive special bonuses. Those who play from October 15 to October 22 will also unlock the Timed Research which gives access to a themed avatar, the Toxel Mask. This will be an additional reason why fans of the game should buy tickets in advance and take part in activities that are to take place before the event.
Similar to the big-scale Pokémon GO events such as the GO Fest and the Pokémon GO Tour, the Wild Area event brings another large-scale event. It will center around Electric- and Poison-type Pokémon, where ticket holders will also be given a chance to choose which of these types they want to focus on in their gameplay. One of the showcased Pokémon, Toxtricity also known as the Punk Pokémon, is available to the players ensuring additional encounters to the expanding roster of costumed and special Pokémon.
The Pokémon GO Wild Area event is going to be open to everyone from 10:00 am to 6:15 pm, on the 23rd and 24th of November 2024. It guarantees to bring new features, for example, the GO Safari Ball, which could enhance the chances of catching rare and powerful Pokemon in the wild. Depending on the theme selected, ticket holders will be able to target specific Pokémon interactions making it a unique experience for everyone.
