Modern Warfare 3 Players Encounter Vehicle Gameplay Bug

In this post:

  • Modern Warfare 3 players deal with a vehicle bug affecting driving in key game modes.
  • It’s likely due to older consoles with hard drives, but players can solve it by upgrading to SSDs or new consoles.
  • Sledgehammer Games hasn’t commented yet, but they’re actively updating the game.

Modern Warfare 3 has recently stumbled upon a bug impacting vehicle gameplay in the popular game. While this issue may initially seem amusing, it significantly affects the handling of vehicles, particularly in game modes that demand efficient driving skills.

Bug affects essential vehicle gameplay

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, despite being nearly a month old since its release last November, continues to attract players worldwide. However, players have recently discovered yet another bug within the game that may hamper their experience. The bug, captured on video by a Reddit user known as HexStrider, involves vehicles appearing to be engulfed by bridges they traverse.

While it might appear as a typical clipping issue, this glitch adversely impacts the handling of vehicles, causing them to swerve uncontrollably along the bridge. Inevitably, these vehicles plummet off the bridge, breaching the railings and descending into the abyss below. Following the fall, the vehicle miraculously respawns on the bridge, only to be struck by a missile, resulting in critical damage.

This bug has raised concerns among players, especially in missions that require swift driving to reach a destination within a time limit. One specific scenario is the Deliver Cargo contracts in Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode, as seen in HexStrider’s footage. Some players have reported that this bug not only hampers their mission performance but has also caused them to fail entirely. In the context of Modern Warfare 3, vehicles play a pivotal role in the gameplay of the Zombies mode.

Fortunately, there is a workaround for this bug, albeit at a cost. Players experiencing this issue can take matters into their own hands, but it might dig into their wallets. Comments on the Reddit post suggest that this problem is prevalent on older consoles equipped with hard drives, as opposed to current-generation machines with SSDs.

The root cause appears to be related to the slower loading times of bridges and terrain elements on older HDDs. The solution? Install the game on an SSD if you’re playing on a PC or consider upgrading to a current-gen console, albeit the more expensive option.

Developer response unclear

As of now, there is no official acknowledgment from developer Sledgehammer Games regarding this bug, nor any indication of them actively working on a fix. The development team remains occupied with addressing other bugs and incorporating requested features into Modern Warfare 3. The most recent update for the game was released just a few days ago, signaling ongoing efforts to enhance the player experience.
