Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) and Warzone experienced widespread technical issues, much to players’ frustration. Reports from the community flooded in detailing significant disruptions, including players being de-ranked to Rank 1 and their inventories reset to Level 1. The outage also affected game modes such as Ranked Play and events like the Horde Hunt and Battle Pass progression.

Call of Duty SBMM disabled

Among the myriad issues experienced during the outage was the disabling of Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM), a divisive feature within the Call of Duty community. While some players lamented the loss of progress and functionality, others found an unexpected silver lining in the absence of SBMM.

This matchmaking system, designed to pair players of similar skill levels, has long been a point of contention among players, with many expressing frustration at its perceived impact on gameplay dynamics.

Subsequent posts on the CODWarzone and modern warfare subreddits reflected the polarized reactions within the community. User ‘BringerOfCerulean’ initiated a discussion on CODWarzone, noting the chaotic yet enjoyable experience of playing without SBMM during the outage. Similar sentiments were echoed on the ModernWarfareIII subreddit by ‘controlled-rage,’ who highlighted the perceived improvement in gameplay with SBMM disabled.

Mixed reactions

While many players expressed enthusiasm for the reprieve from SBMM, others voiced dissatisfaction with the disrupted gameplay experience. Some players reported feeling overwhelmed by more skilled opponents, leading to frustration and disengagement from the game.

These differing perspectives underscore the complexity of balancing competitive integrity with player enjoyment within the gaming community.

Despite the vocal feedback from players, it is unlikely that Activision will make significant changes to SBMM in response to the outage. The company has previously provided insights into the mechanics of SBMM through blog posts, aiming to demystify the system for players. However, these explanations have not assuaged concerns or altered perceptions among certain segments of the player base.

As players navigate the aftermath of the technical issues, attention turns to the upcoming Season 3 content for MW3 and Warzone. Anticipation mounts for new features and updates, tempered by skepticism surrounding rumors of a returning map in Warzone. With the community eagerly awaiting further announcements, the future trajectory of Call of Duty remains a topic of keen interest among players.
