In recent announcements, Riot Games has unveiled significant updates to the 2024 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the upcoming League of Legends World Championship.

These changes include new event locations, a Hall of Legends, and a revamped competitive format. With a focus on celebrating the game’s legacy and fostering greater competition, League of Legends fans have much to look forward to this year.

Chengdu debuts as MSI host city

The 2024 MSI will be the third edition held in China, but it marks the first time it will take place in Chengdu, China. The city has recently made its mark on the esports map, hosting several prestigious events in the past month, including the Honor of Kings International Championship 2023 Finals, Crossfire Stars 2023, and the Naraka Bladepoint World Championship. With its growing reputation in esports, Chengdu promises to provide a captivating backdrop for the tournament.

Riot Games also revealed the locations for various League of Legends World Championship 2024 stages. While the finals are already set to occur in London, England, the other stages will be hosted in different European cities. The Swiss Stage and Play-ins will occur at the newly revamped Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Germany.

Meanwhile, the semi-finals and quarter-finals are scheduled for the Adidas Arena in Paris, France. This distribution of stages across Europe aims to bring the excitement of the World Championship closer to fans across the continent.

Hall of Legends: A tribute to League of Legends greats

Riot Games introduced a novel initiative called the ‘Hall of Legends,’ designed to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the League of Legends community through their exceptional talent and achievements. W

While details regarding the first inductee’s identity remain undisclosed, Riot Games has stated that the honoree will receive recognition both within the game and in real life. An independent voting panel comprising esports industry veterans and experts from various regions will select the inaugural inductee. This highly anticipated announcement is expected to occur later this year.

One of the most substantial changes announced by Riot Games involves the competitive format of MSI. The winner of MSI 2024 will now earn an automatic spot at the League of Legends World Championship 2024, securing an additional qualification spot for their respective region.

Furthermore, the second-best-performing region at MSI will receive a fourth-seed spot in their league, further enhancing the competitive landscape. This development means that Riot Games’ four major leagues – LEC, LCK, LPL, and LCS – will commence the 2024 season with three guaranteed spots for Worlds qualification. These changes are set to increase the stakes and intensity of the MSI tournament.

Important dates for League of Legends fans

Mark your calendars, League of Legends fans! The 2024 MSI is scheduled from May 1 to May 19, offering thrilling competition and showcasing the world’s top teams battling for supremacy.

The League of Legends World Championship will follow later in the year, running from September 25th to November 2nd, featuring the best teams from around the globe vying for the ultimate glory.
