Former GTA 5 developer Ben Hinchliffe broke the enigma of the Mount Chiliad mystery. He revealed that the easter egg was “just to mess with people”.
The Mount Chiliad within GTA 5 has been the focus of attention as a conspiracy theory for over 10 years. Fans have been trying to solve the easter egg in many ways but in the end, it was revealed as literally nothing.
When Hinchliffe was asked about the easter egg on GTAVIoclock, his response was “As with all easter eggs, sometimes you just put them in to mess with people. They don’t actually do anything, you just mess with people, drive them a little bit crazy.”
The former developer shared that there was always the preference to add complex easter egg hunts in the game for the passionate players, but incase of Mount Chiliad, it was just an empty tease. The GTA series is famous for its wild and mysterious easter eggs as well. The mystery of Mount Chiliad is without any doubt the most hyped one.
This mountain is the tallest point on the map of GTA 5. Players spotted alien glyphs and have been curious for years about dissecting the meaning behind them.
GTA 5 Mount Chiliad mystery could be connected to the canceled DLC
Although Hinchcliffe left no hope for anything in the easter egg of Mount Chiliad, there have been references in the game’s files previously that hint towards the alien invasion DLC which was never released.
Other data-mined files suggested another “Agent Trevor” DLC which was canceled as well. There could be a possibility of this mystery being related to it. This specific DLC had made the most progress in terms of its development. Moreover, the actor who played Trevor, Steven Ogg confirmed it too.
Mount Chiliad debugged before GTA 6 release
GTA 5 was the first release in 2013. The game still rules the top-selling list giving tough competition to the new releases. The game has also set the bar too high for the next edition in the franchise, GTA 6 which players are eagerly waiting for.
Now that the decade-long debate on the mystery of Mount Chiliad has been debugged, that too in an underwhelming way, players should move on and wait for GTA 6.
GTA 6 was revealed in late 2023 and the release has been confirmed by Rockstar Games in the Fall of 2025.
