Elon Musk has invited game developers to submit samples of their work to his artificial intelligence company xAI gaming studio branch that he created back in late February.
“If you’re interested in creating super fun, revolutionary AI video games, please send examples of your prior video game work to [email protected],” Musk posted on social platform X on Thursday evening.
The Tesla CEO and billionaire confirmed that the xAI game studio will continue with its plans to create video games, promising the community that he will “make video games great again,” a slogan first made popular by US President Donald Trump.
Musk could use Grok in video game development
Earlier in the year, the xAI CEO announced that its latest model, Grok 3, was capable of generating basic video game frameworks with code. During a Grok 3 unveiling livestream on X, Musk asked his followers to join the company and help them build AI games.
Although few official details were provided about the studio’s structure, employees of the studio gave several demonstrations of Grok 3’s capabilities in game development. In one live example, Grok generated a basic version of the classic arcade game Tetris using Python.
Another developer prompted Grok to recreate “Bubble Trouble,” producing a 2D version with physics and collisions but failed to capture the retro-sound effects.
Musk later explained that xAI’s new game studio is actively looking into integration of photo-realistic graphics into AI-generated games. He also claimed that Grok could upscale visual fidelity within a game environment using only text prompts.
No one from the xAI team has confirmed if the feature is built into Grok’s game-building framework or will be offered as a standalone enhancement tool, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FidelityFX.
Several gaming enthusiasts have reacted to Musk’s plea across X, particularly indie developers and AI experts. “It’s been almost two years since I submitted the prototype of my first work, and I still feel compelled to carry on with it. AI has made it easy. Now, we have a studio which can do the tedious work on our behalf,” said one artist.
Still, naysayers argue that Grok’s image creation is lackluster, even when issued with curated prompts to perform tasks.
You should have grok’s image creator improved. Shit sux dude.
My descriptor prompts were so on point and this is what came out. I even had grok repeat back in its own words what they were creating and grok described correctly but blasted out this, whatever this is. pic.twitter.com/4zE27gs6V6

“My descriptor prompts were so on point, I even had grok repeat back in its own words what they were creating and grok described correctly but blasted out, whatever this is,” complained one user after the AI model provided an image that was not to his liking.
Gaming industry rebounds, AI and blockchain boost numbers
In other related news, according to a May 8 report from gaming market research firm Digital Development Management (DDM), the first quarter of 2025 became the second consecutive quarter of growth for the gaming industry, reversing a downturn that had plagued it in the past two years.
Gaming-related AI investments reached $3.1 billion, a 2,288% uptick in value and a 14% rise in volume compared to Q3 2024. Blockchain also pulled in $372.2 million in investments despite a 50% drop in deal volume.
“‘Survive till 2025’ became a defining mantra for the games industry during recent turbulent years,” said Mitchell Reavis, investment review director at DDM. “DDM has listed layoffs and divestitures of non-core businesses in 2025, but the data shows there are genuine signs of recovery.”
Community games like Fortnite and League of Legends made up only 1%, with eSports even less than that.
Meanwhile, investments in game developers surged 457% in value, reaching $4 billion across 103 investments, though the number of deals dropped by 27%.
