Sean “Diddy” Combs has been reportedly moved into the same jail housing unit as Sam Bankman-Fried at a federal detention center in Brooklyn.
According to NBC New York, both SBF and Diddy are currently at the Metropolitan Detention Center. According to the original sources who talked with NBC, the unit houses around 19 to 20 inmates, including high profile defendants, and cooperators (inmates requiring protection).
Combs was arrested based on sex trafficking allegations, whereas Sam Bankman-Fried is a former crypto executive who was extradited to the US after getting arrested in the Bahamas based on seven criminal charges. These included campaign finance law violation, money laundering, securities fraud, commodities fraud, and wire fraud.
As for Diddy, he could not get a bail last week as he is awaiting a trial based on his federal charges. As of yet, the rapper didn’t plead guilty to the charges. Currently, the music mogul remains in custody in NYC since getting arrested on 16th September at his Manhattan hotel.
However, the conditions of Diddy’s confinement aren’t yet known. A spokesperson from the FBI said, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) does not provide information about conditions of confinement, including housing assignments or internal security practices for any particular incarcerated individual.”
The detention center has been home to other high profile criminals
The Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn has also been home to other high-profile inmates. It house R. Kelly before trial, a disgraced R&B musician who ended up getting a 30 year sentence. Since then, Kelly has been transferred to the North Carolina federal correctional institution. It was also home to an associate of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell who has since been moved to the Florida federal prison, where he’s being held at the “honor dorm.”
Fetty Wap, rapper 6ix9ine, and Martin Shkreli have also spent time in the same detention center.
