WalkABit presents cryptocurrency rewards for travelers

TL;DR

Hailing out of Spain, WalkABit has now introduced cryptocurrency rewards for travelers. Cryptocurrency rewards quickly gained momentum with the rise of the sphere and WalkABit now stand among the pioneers in the travel industry.

At the beginning of April travel tech startup WalkABit has launched operations in Barcelona. The mobile-only platform is fusing together ideas of Geocaching-like treasure hunt for tourists, with cashback and cryptocurrency.

How to get WalkABit cryptocurrency rewards for travelers?

WalkABit is a geo-enabled application yet is not based on locations. Users will receive crypto assets as a reward for answering a question about the surroundings of the landmark that they see. Cryptocurrency is allocated to an in-app wallet for every sight that is visited.

During the trip within the city, users can also take advantage of cashback on numerous tourist services. From restaurants, through bike rentals, to boat rides, app users get five percent (5%) or more cashback on their whole spend. Cashback is rewarded in Euros (€), and landmark rewards are paid in cryptocurrency.

Speaking to Cryptopolitan.com, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michal Zielinski of the travel tech startup explained that:

Currently we’re focusing on on-trip activities. Everything that a traveler does during his stay. He can open up the app and take an instant decision – where to go, what to do, what to eat etc. For each of these activities he will be rewarded. At the later stage we would like to implement pre-trip functionalities which will help users to plan their journey in order to be able to take the most out of it.

Currently, WalkABit is only present in Barcelona, but with the launch and start of a seed funding round, the plans are to commence operations in thee (3) more European cities in 2019, followed by fourteen (14) more in 2020. Zelinski furthers that:

We are aiming to work with 3-4 cryptocurrencies that are listed in Bittrex

WalkABit’s engine is using Bittrex exchange. For Barcelona, they are rewarding users with DOGE coins, and currently discussing opportunities to onboard different cryptocurrencies.
