Chainlink powers tokenized RWAs with new U.S. stock and ETF Data Streams

In this post:

  • Chainlink has launched Data Streams for U.S. equities and ETFs to power secure tokenized real-world assets.
  • The firm collaborated with Kaminio, GMX, and GMX-Solana to launch Data Streams across 37 different blockchain networks.
  • Data Streams aim to address challenges for U.S. equities and ETFs that could lead to potential mispricings, unfair liquidations, regulatory gaps, and other risks.

Chainlink has launched Chainlink Data Streams for U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to power tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). DeFi protocols such as Kamino, GMX, and GMX-Solana have already adopted the Data Streams.

The blockchain network also revealed that its Data Streams are providing pricing for TradFi assets, including SPY, CRCL, QQQ, NVDA, AAPL, MSFT, and others. According to the report, the Data Streams are available across 37 different blockchain networks.

Chainlink offers more investment options for developers

The decentralized Oracle network said Data Streams aims to provide real-time data for U.S. equities and ETFs on-chain. The structure will also enable developers to use U.S. equities and ETFs for tokenized stock trading, perpetual futures, and synthetic ETFs.

Jone Ze, GMX Communications, believes that Data Streams deliver decentralized, institutional-grade pricing infrastructure that could advance DeFi beyond crypto-native assets. On-chain data showed that the tokenized assets market is growing, currently at $275 billion.

“With Chainlink Data Streams’ fast, reliable, and context-rich market data, production-ready tokenized financial products tied to U.S. equities and ETFs can now be launched directly on-chain.”

Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs.

The RWA market is expected to surpass $30 trillion by 2030. Thomas Short, co-founder of Kamino, also hopes that U.S. stock and ETF Data Streams will create an on-chain system that matches the scale and sophistication of traditional markets.

Chainlink revealed that its infrastructure aims to address some challenges with tokenized equities and ETF products, including market hours tracking, staleness detection, circuit breaker readiness, and event-aware logic. The company believes those challenges could expose tokenized products to potential mispricings, unfair liquidations, regulatory gaps, and other risks.

The firm said its Data Centers provide contextual market metadata to power applications. The supported metadata will also include pricing algorithms aggregated from Finalto, Tiingo, and Finnhub.

The Data Centers will have a market status indicator to determine market hours logic and a LastUpdate Timestamp for applications to assess data freshness. They will also have a circuit breaker ready to support protocols from trading halts, stock suspensions, or U.S. exchange outages.

Data Streams combine inputs from multiple data sources and processes them through decentralized oracle networks (DONs). The system uses a structured schema – designed to advance DeFi composability – to deliver the data sources on-chain.

Chainlink plans future upgrade for Data Streams

The company said a structured schema can also differentiate between real-world prices and tokenized stock prices. Both data types also unlock arbitrage opportunities and support the development of strategies to capture price spreads.

According to Chainlink, Data Streams allows for perpetual trading for U.S. equities and ETFs. The protocol allows users to include tokenized U.S. stocks and funds on-chain for lending and borrowing.

Chainlink will also permit users to combine multiple Data Streams to create custom index products. The company believes that Data Streams for U.S. equities and ETFs have come at a time when the tokenized asset industry is ready to bring capital markets on-chain.

The company also announced future plans to expand coverage of equities and ETFs, and add support for additional asset classes such as forex, commodities, and OTC markets. Chainlink plans to scale its ongoing partner integrations and contextual data capabilities. Chainlink SDK and other developer tooling updates will also come soon.
