Call of Duty apologizes for massive update, offers free tokens as compensation

In this post:

  • Call of Duty’s massive MW3 update sparks storage concerns, Activision offers free tokens as compensation.
  • Developers streamline game files in the latest update, promising reduced storage demands for future updates.
  • Activision responds to player frustrations over MW3’s 100GB update with free XP tokens and battle pass skips.

For the most recent Modern Warfare 3 update, Call of Duty players have had to face unexpectedly huge download sizes with file sizes ranging from 80GB-100 GB. As a result, the developers offered apologies for this upgrade which also integrates Black Ops 6 into Call of Duty HQ. Activision has responded to this by giving free tokens to affected customers.

The latest Modern Warfare 3 update downloaded by players has come with big files thus raising concerns about storage space and the length it would take to download them. Activision acknowledged the matter and stated that every player who logs in to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone will get a “free community pack” as an appreciation. Inside, there are ten Double XP tokens, ten Double Weapon XP tokens and ten free battle pass tier skips.

Call of Duty developers streamline game files for future updates

The large update, game developers said, is not just adding content but reordering of game files. This step by Activision is necessary to prepare for a new player interface scheduled to arrive in October. These file optimizations are intended to result in an overall reduction in the digital footprint of Call of Duty once the update is done.

In addition, Activision confirmed that it will be the last update of its kind. The update has a new reducing formula for files to make them occupy less space. Nevertheless, players with limited hard drive capacity have already been facing issues due to the current size of the update.

The platform requires major changes due to the introduction of Black Ops 6 into Call of Duty HQ alongside Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. This integration resulted in a massive update which Activision admits is bigger than usual. Although it promises future decreases in file size, players are currently suffering from its impact.

This has caused delays in the game access and issues with storage capacity due to the enormous size of the update. Therefore, for some people, Activision’s move to provide free tokens is seen as an effort by them to address these concerns and keep players engaged.

The developers have said that it will not permanently increase storage space requirements for Call of Duty notwithstanding how large the download size appears. Instead, the team claims that this is one step towards further optimizing game files and reducing their overall size in the future.
