A US-based non-profit organization Rainforest Foundation US has asked for help from blockchain and cryptocurrency community to come forward and save the Amazon rainforest from apparent destruction.
Amazon is burning – and fast! Unless communities and organizations come forward to protect the rainforest from complete deforestation collectively, we need to start preparing ourselves for catastrophic climate changes and an entire ecosystem breakdown. In frantic attempts to prevent further destruction and lend a helping hand to the affected areas, one organization has found a unique way to become Amazon’s guardian.
Rainforest Foundation US is a New York-based organization that is dedicated to safeguarding the rights and interests of the native people from rainforests. On Sep 4, it reached out to the blockchain and cryptocurrency community for their support in saving the burning rainforest.
According to the foundation’s website, the deforestation and massive forest fires in Brazil have increased by seventy-five percent (75%) ever since President Jair Bolsonaro took charge of the nation. Its people, animals, and natural habitat need urgent help. By partnering with The Giving Block, the foundation could use any support it receives from the blockchain and cryptocurrency community and media partners in the form of donations, the post states.
Amazon needs urgent support from blockchain and cryptocurrency community
According to the foundation’s executive director, Suzanne Pelletier, the old school charity techniques are no more relevant and have failed to get the required results. She asserts that the organization could use the help from the cryptocurrency community with their unconventional ideas of raising funds.
Pelletier furthers her point with vouching for cryptocurrency users’ innovative and out of the box approach to generating the required capital. Cryptocurrency payments bring simplicity and efficiency in cross-border payments and would go a long way in helping Foundation raise money, confirms Pelletier. Besides, the smart contracts system being developed by the Regen Network will track the real-time restoration activities.
The NGO is welcoming donations in the form of Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. Moreover, it requests the crypto community to sponsor the foundation’s campaigns against deforestation.
It is not the first time blockchain and cryptocurrency community has lent a helping hand to disaster relief organizations. The Bahamas-based blockchain firm, PO8, is currently working on getting substantial donations and contributions from the crypto community in bringing aid to the victims of the deadly Hurricane Dorian.
