Akon is sponsoring the first blockchain city in Senegal. The plan is for the city to be powered by a crypto coin named Akoin. The currency, however, is presently being integrated into a tech city in Kenya.
Akoin digital currency is highly anticipated among many crypto enthusiasts. The digital currency would be launched first in a technological city in Kenya. The city is the Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC). The integration of the currency in the metropolitan city is a test program for Akon’s futuristic City in Senegal.
MMTC is a metropolitan city in Kakamega County in Kenya. The metropolitan city has a capacity of over 5 thousand bed. The complex is said to be worth close to $2 billion.
The complex according to the major financier behind the project, Julius Mwale, said that the complex would most likely be finished before the year runs out.
The investor went on to say that the city would be using the Akoin exclusively in the complex. This was made known in an interview at Blockdown 3.0.
Mwale went on to note that the residents of the complex and merchants in the complex would be using the Akoin.
Akon’s Akoin can be swapped with other major currencies
Akoin digital currency would be exchanged via different payment methods. This would allow the users of the digital currency to be able to swap the currency with other currencies like the US Dollar for instance.
There are also plans for a credit card to be issued after the first 30 thousand transactions have been reached in 30 days. It means that outlets that accept other major payment cards like Visa and MasterCard would also be able to accept the Akoin Credit Card.
When this is achieved, it is expected that the digital currency system would be upgraded to carry out over 1 million transactions in a month.
