The Akita Inu dog breed, a prominent symbol of the northern Akita prefecture in Japan, has recently become a globally popular breed. To address questions of pedigree verification and missing credentials, the Akita Inu Preservation Society has taken a contemporary route by partnering with technology companies Meta Akita and Heirloom Inc to provide a viable solution through blockchain technology.
Akita Inu Preservation Society’s drive into blockchain
The Akita Inu Preservation Society has grown rapidly and has close to 500 members in 2023, up from 300 in 2022. This growth in worldwide membership raises the challenge of providing the secure and effective distribution of pedigree certificates. The papers on which these certificates are normally printed are often lost during international transport. Besides, several years ago, there was another incident with fake documents in China, highlighting a need for a more reliable system.
It is worth noting that Meta Akita Inc. and American company Heirloom Inc.’s blockchain-based pedigree is known for high-quality security, which is the hallmark of blockchain technology, which is widely used in various crypto transactions.
When blockchain is utilized to distribute digital certificates, most certificate delivery to dog owners takes only a few seconds, compared to mailing paper versions that could often take two or more weeks. With this partnership, pedigree verification will be seamless.
A board member of the society, Yuki Shoji, said, ” In addition to the accessibility of digitalization, we want the owners to be confident in the fact that their dog is purebred. ”
