$800K crypto robbery: UK quietly becoming the next France for crypto wrench attacks

- A UK crypto trader using the handle @rrealist says he was taped up, held at knifepoint, and robbed of about $800,000 in a home invasion.
- On-chain records show a flagged Solana wallet drained within 32 minutes of his public post.
- The UK is increasingly showing up alongside France as a target in such incidents.
A UK crypto trader going by @rrealist on X put British crypto holders on alert late Monday after he became the victim of an $800,000 crypto robbery, the latest in a run of such attacks in the country.
According to the trader, he was taped up and threatened with three knives in his face during the Monday night home invasion.
Another UK crypto holder gets robbed
Across two posts detailing his ordeal, the trader wrote: “if you live in the uk and do crypto get the fuck out,” adding that he was “taped up held at knife point & robbed for $800k.” @rrealist added that the intruders held “three knifes to my face saying they were gonna kill me.”
The trader’s losses, according to his own account, broke down as:
- Roughly $40,000 out of his main wallets
- About $720,000 from a Ledger hardware wallet.
- The robbers also took his Rolex and left a smashed phone as collateral damage.
The crypto losses, based on his own posts and the blockchain trail he provided, total about $760,000, not including the stolen Rolex watch.
The victim reported that the police were treating his house as a crime scene. As of this report, no UK force has issued a statement confirming the robbery.
Alleged robbers moved USDC after social media post
The stolen funds parked in a Solana address that the victim published with his post were drained within 32 minutes of @rrealist’s X post after sitting idle for more than two hours.
The address first received 346.13 SOL late on October 12, before another 718,735.8 USDC followed about 20 minutes later. With SOL trading at roughly $106.88 around the time of this report, the SOL and USDC deposits add up to $755,730.
Britain is building a wrench attack profile
Reports of crypto robberies have become somewhat of a fixture in the UK since late last year. Three men forced their way into a couple’s home, beat the husband and threatened his pregnant wife with a knife while a fourth suspect gave orders over a video call in a December 2025 attack in the Smith’s Wood area of Solihull.
Cryptopolitan reported that Crimestoppers offered a £10,000 reward for information in that case.
The country has also handed out convictions in other cases. In August, a court found five men guilty for the 52-hour imprisonment of two French crypto millionaires in a London flat that ended in the victims transferring $30,000 to the kidnappers.
In February, three Sheffield teenagers were jailed after posing as delivery drivers to steal $4.3 million at knifepoint from a Hoxton flat.
Chainalysis documented 46 reported wrench attack incidents worldwide in the first half of 2026, with home invasions climbing from a single reported case in 2025 to 20 this year. The over-$30 million in H1 2026 losses are also on pace to surpass the entire $58 million haul in 2025.
France remains the center of gravity. Chainalysis counted 30 publicly known French incidents by midyear, and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez put the first-half tally at 77 kidnappings, extortions or attempted extortions.
