On March 5th, Niantic announced the Deep Depths event, which will bring Nickit and its evolution, Thievul. The event will start on March 19th and last until March 24th. Players can catch Nickit in the wild or hatch it from 7 km eggs. 50 Nickit candy will allow Thievil evolution.

Right before the event launches, Kubfu will also debut in Pokémon Go, another awaited Gen 8 creature.
Pokémon GO’s upcoming event includes free Timed Research
The Deep Depths event also includes free Timed Research in which players can earn rewards like Kubfu candy and Pokémon encounters based on the event’s theme.
Moreover, players can also purchase Paid Timed Research for $2 USD, which guarantees Clauncher and Nickit encounters, including super incubators.

Nickit is a fan-favorite Pokémon from Galar, shown in the Might and Mastery trailer. Players can catch more copies of the popular Pokemon as Niantic has expanded Pokémon Go’s storage limit.
While shiny Nickit won’t be added, players have a high chance of encountering and hatching shiny Clauncher. Moreover, the distance for egg hatching will be half less at the event.
Free-to-play players did not enjoy Kyurem Research
Pokémon Go’s Dual Destiny season ended with a Pokémon Go Tour: Unova weekend. This event saw the debuts of Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. The Kyurem Research tasks received criticism from the players as they had extra limitations for free-to-play fans.
According to a Reddit post by Apolloo624, the task “It’s Not Over Yet” was designed to be highly difficult for free players. One of the requirements of this task was to fuse Kyurem. To do so, players needed 1000 Volt Fusion Energy to catch Black Kyurem and 100 Blaze Fusion Energy to catch either Black or White Kyurem. To obtain this level of energy, players had to win a minimum of 10 Kyurem raids per fusion. The Unova tour event didn’t offer free raid passes to players like in previous events, so players had to buy premium raid passes as well.
Moreover, players also faced difficulty during the Legendary Kanto Birds Dynamax raids.
