  • Nintendo is trying to keep the Switch 2 safe from scalpers.
  • The official launch date of Switch 2 has not been made public.
  • Nintendo is planning its production goals to match the console’s demand.

Nintendo is working to protect fans from scalpers as the launch of the Switch 2 approaches. The company is planning for the availability of enough stock while implementing measures to stop resellers from acquiring entire console supplies.

Since Switch 2 has a high demand, Nintendo is confidently gearing up to prevent the awaited launch from scalpers’ exploitation.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa told Nikkei that the company has taken proactive steps to ensure abundant stock ahead of the Switch 2 launch. He recognized the impact of scalpers who exploited a limited supply of the original console during its launch in 2017.

Therefore, Nintendo is increasing its manufacturing capabilities to ensure everyone gets a chance to purchase the console directly from Nintendo rather than from the scalpers.

Nintendo also planned to take legal action against scalpers

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said the company plans to execute “all possible measures” against scalping activity. Furukawa stated that in 2024, his company planned to take legal action against resellers in specific regions. However, they are prioritizing the production goal at this time to match existing customer demand.

Furukawa didn’t discuss this plan in much detail, but the company started planning for this problem before the Switch 2 announcement. Furthermore, the official launch date of Switch 2 remains unknown. However, some fans are speculating the release on 22nd May, 2025.

Other technology companies, apart from Nintendo, also had to deal with the scalpers plague. The Nvidia RTX 5090 and 5080 graphics cards sold out from shelves right after their launch, and scalpers were reselling them at premium prices.

The same situation happened with PS5 Pro pre-orders. Despite their controversial high prices, the consoles sold out within minutes. In specific, the 30th-anniversary edition sold out quickly due to its limited production. Soon after, these units appeared on eBay with prices reaching $10,000 USD.
