Monster Hunter Wilds players are complaining about major technical issues in the game. The Steam ratings show mixed reviews despite reaching 1.3 million players in the initial hours of launch.

Monster Hunter Wilds was launched on February 28, 2025. Steamdb data shows that it has had a better start than games like Dota 2, Cyberpunk 2088, and Elden Ring, with an all-time peak player count of 1,307,976.

The game offers crossplay between PCs and consoles, including Xbox and PlayStation, which is a major contributor to its 1.3 million record player count.

However, PC players of Monster Hunter Wilds are facing technical issues. Out of 46,684 total Steam reviews, 28,476 show mixed ratings at the time of this writing. Many players are complaining about poor optimization, low-resolution textures, inconsistency in frame rates, and constant crashes.

One Steam review by Sgt. Walker Rhymes sarcastically shares, “Very immersive game. You cook a well-done steak on your GPU,” which also feels like being in the desert as the PC heats up, giving “hot blasts of air.”

Another review says, “My air fryer is more optimized than this.”

On Reddit, a user shared a screenshot from the game showing polygonal characters, which is easy to compare with an older generation Nintendo 64 game.

Updating the game’s version of Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling tech to the most recent one using the DLSS Swapper tool has also helped some players.

Meanwhile, Capcom has asked players to update their graphics card drivers and play the game on the latest version of Windows.

A user shared that running games like Elden Ring or Cyberpunk was not a problem on higher settings, and to buy a new graphics card for Monter Hunter especially is “pretty shit.”

On the other hand, console players are reporting fair performance with “occasional frame stutters where you’d expect them”.

According to Digital Foundry, the game feels “undercooked” as a modern game on all PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.

However, the general consensus is that It’s unfortunate that players have faced these performance issues with the Monster Hunter game after waiting for years and going through multiple rounds of beta tests.
