Mercuryo integrated Passkey for fiat-to-crypto payment authentication via its biometric solution without inputting a One Time Passcode (OTP) delivered via text message or email. Passkey, available on iPhone, Android, or Windows, will be rolled out across Mercuryo’s 200+ partner network, including non-custodial wallets.
Passkey utilizes encryption technology and has a proven track record for delivering optimal biometric authentication through fingerprint or face scans, providing an intuitive means of signing in to an account. Passkey was initially developed by FIDO Alliance, and it provides a credential that is only registered once on a user’s personal device. The device then proves possession of the registered credential to the remote server via the user’s screen lock.
Kozyakov claims Passkey enhances user data protection
Petr Kozyakov, co-founder and CEO at Mercuryo, said his company was delighted to integrate the Passkey feature, which provides an optimal and intuitive log-in process while enhancing the protection of users’ data. He added that the introduction of Passkey demonstrated Mercuryo’s commitment to continuously develop its service to deliver a user experience that will help further mainstream the adoption of web3 payments.
The head of Business Development at Trust Wallet, Tatiana Kurach, said that adding Passkey to the Mercuryo platform would further enhance the user experience for those buying and selling digital tokens in Trust Wallet. She added that her company was confident there would be a ready uptake of this biometric security layer among its user base.
“Passkey provides an optimal and robust means of enabling users to obtain access to their accounts and make transactions.”

Mercuryo says Passkey provides a streamlined and encrypted means of verifying a user’s identity while eliminating complexity. It solves one of the greatest obstacles to web3 mass adoption, the challenge of delivering accessible payments.
Passkey protects against common AI threats
Mercuryo also claimed that Passkey provided protection against common digital attack vectors and an additional layer of defense against complex threats arising from new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Passkey helps to “circumvent” the vulnerabilities inherent in email and text message-based authentication processes by protecting against malware and phishing attacks.
To set up and manage Passkey on a Mercuryo account, users are advised to use the Mercuryo Widget to initiate a purchase. Next, users must enter the amount and crypto they want to purchase, click “Buy,” and enter the wallet address. After that, users select their preferred payment method when prompted.
Users must enter an email address and input the code sent to the provided email to complete the Passkey setup process. Users will then be required to click “Add Passkey” on the “Enable Passkey” screen and add Passkey to a password manager of their choice, e.g., 1Password or Google Password Manager.
Passkeys can also be added through the Widget menu. First, users should click the two-line symbol (=) located in the top right corner, and select the Passkey option, then click “Add Passkey” to add a new Passkey. Users can also rename existing Passkeys by clicking the pencil icon to the right of its name or delete an existing Passkey by clicking the X icon to the right of its name.
