LEGO has revealed today that it joined hands with Pokemon to launch a Pokemon-themed LEGO next year. The companies stated that as part of the “new multi-year partnership,” the LEGO Pokemon sets will come out in 2026.
The company teased on its official website, “Electrify your imagination in 2026 and get ready to build something we’ve never built with LEGO bricks before!” The gaming firm’s website also features a specific landing page for Pokemon, which confirmed the leaked teaser earlier that featured a LEGO Pikachu tail.
The firm released a brief teaser pointing towards the LEGO set based on Pikachu, but the firm did not disclose how many sets will be released in the future. There were also no other major updates about the types of Pokemon and the style of sets that players can expect from the upcoming series.
The gaming company’s official statement maintained that Pokemon fans worldwide have always dreamed of training their favorite Pokemon. The company added that the partnership will bring the world of Pokemon to life in entirely new ways, allowing fans to build beloved Pokemon in LEGO brick form.
The LEGO Group acknowledged in a press release accompanying the announcement that together with Pokemon, both companies had a long history of pushing the boundaries of social play, which was at the core of their partnership.
LEGO Group plans to unleash LEGO Pokemon game
The LEGO Group stated that for the first time, it will bring the most loved Pokemon to life in a brand-new way. The firm highlighted that the new upcoming game will offer play experiences that will delight new and existing fans alike.
“We are thrilled to be working with a brand that has such a deep and passionate fanbase as Pokemon, partnering to give our joint audiences what they have been asking for.”
-Julia Goldin, LEGO chief product and marketing officer
Goldin added that the firm believes that the partnership with Pokemon will create a range of new possibilities for trainers and builders alike. She also said that the endless possibilities of LEGO play and the exciting adventures the world of Pokemon has will give birth to the best toy game next year.
The Pokemon Company’s chief product and experience officer, Gaku Susai, maintained that the LEGO Group and Pokemon have strong shared values of imagination, creativity, and fun. She believes that the partnership between both companies will deliver unique, meaningful, and engaging ways for trainers to experience the Pokemon brand.
Susai also noted that she worked with and saw the best-in-class team at the LEGO Group and saw their dedication and passion for the project. She is confident that the team’s dedication has culminated in an innovative and groundbreaking collaboration that will surprise and delight fans. The company’s executive also said, “We cannot wait to see both LEGO fans and the Pokemon community’s reaction in 2026.”
Pokemon has partnered with Mattel’s Mega Blocks and Mega Construx lines over the years to release a series of buildable Pokemon toy sets. Mattel revealed that it had been behind the Mega Pokemon sets for over 20 years.
The firm also announced in 2022 that it had renewed its license to make Mega building sets. Mattel has not revealed whether it will continue to offer the LEGO sets that will be provided exclusive rights to make the Pokemon building sets starting next year.
The gaming company also announced in January that it will release a buildable version of Nintendo’s Game Boy handheld in October 2025. Pokemon-related games first debuted in 1996 on the same Nintendo Game Boy consoles.
