Google is stopping Gemini AI services from operating in its iOS search app. The company wants users to download the Gemini app instead of using it within Google search.
Google announced the change via an email with a statement saying, “Gemini is no longer available in the Google app.” The email stated that users who would like to continue using Gemini on iOS should download its app directly from the App Store.
Google anticipates that this move will push Gemini to compete with other AI applications like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Perplexity in terms of downloads on Apple’s App Store. On the other side, Google might lose millions of users who rely on Google’s search app if they do not take the next step and download Gemini.

Gemini offers advanced AI features for iOS users
Gemini offers various ways to interact with its LLM on iOS. Users can converse with the AI assistant via Gemini Live, research different topics, ask questions, and receive AI summaries. In addition, users can interact with Gemini via the camera and even generate images.
Gemini connects seamlessly with other Google apps including the search app, Maps, Gmail, and YouTube. Users who would like to access more features can upgrade to Gemini Advanced, which is a paid subscription available through the Google One AI Premium plan.
The Gemini App launched globally on Apple’s App Store in late 2024. Google continued to offer Gemini through the search app, but now, if users try to access the AI assistant through the Google search app, they will see a message saying, “Gemini now has its own app,” with links to the App Store for download.
